Tear in my eye watching Dunkirk

Just watched this film again and never fails to get me emotional thinking what our veterans went through and still do.

God bless our men and women who fought and died in WWII

Brighton - even Hove!

I thought the film was a bit ‘cleaner’ than the photos I’ve seen of the actual retreat and attack. Reasonably good film though. I preferred ‘Fury’ or ‘Saving Private Ryan’.

I go to France quite often - it’s only 2 hours away and there’s loads of German WW2 gun emplacements and museums and V2 launching an building sites and such. There’s a really good one where the concrete roof was 20feet thick and a Lancaster dropped a bomb and knocked a chunk off. When I saw that and read how it was done, it was very satisfying.

I’m very grateful for their sacrifice.

Yeh I love those films too especially being ex forces my sen.

But think it was made like that to focus on the characters more and what it must of been like then.

I hope one day to go to Normandy when I get chance

My grandad was rescued from Dunkirk, watching the film I shed a tear seeing what he went through.

Being ex forces I've have the honour of meeting the few that are left from that moment in our history and always get a lump in my throat when I chat with them

That's a surprising reaction as I thought the film gave a good representation of WW2 vets, namely being human.

As well as being heroic they were also shown as being selfish, cowardly, and scheming.

I actually wasn't impressed with the film, and disappointed I wasn't.

It just lacked something. I don't know what. I've seen old black and white films that moved me. I think it was just too glossy.

Saving Private Ryan has a great beginning but suffers from a lack of story ..still a good film ...Fury is very good but has a stupid ending a really stupid ending..up until then very good ..still not as good as Where Eagles Dare ..Guns of Naverone..Battle of Britain..even Kelly's Heroes

Kelly's hero's is right up there with the best.

Dirty Dozen

Can't beat the older ones.

2 new good ones I liked as well.

The film was a heap of crap, made for money and not true to what actually happened. The vast majority of the small boats sailed from Ramsgate, Broadstairs and Margate, those being the closest ports to France. Yet the film shows the rescue ship Sailing from Dorset. It didn't reflect on the men ordered to stay behind in towns and face certain death so the others could get away. It was a money spinner pure and simple.

I work in a dementia care unit for ex military. There r a few in there 90's still alive who remember it. Its so sad sometimes hearing them talk an cry for there friends an families. I'm also ex military so I can imagine how they feel.

I’ve been to Normandy a few times and there’s loads to look at including the remains of the Mulberry Harbour some of which you can touch at low tide, some depressing cemetaries with tens of thousands of graves, the German gun emplacements etc, calvados, the Pegasus bridge and cafe, apple tarts and the bayeaux tapestry. It’s well worth a visit.

I wish they’d remake The Dambusters with cgi.

Amusingly, if you watch the dam attack it follows the sound track to the attack on the Death Star in Episode 4.

I watched it last night and enjoyed it . A very well made film indeed .

My grandad was evacuated from the beaches there and my mother has his Dunkirk medal amongst others . Growing up he always said that everybody got off and no one was killed . Obviously just being a very kind grandad and not wanting to tell us the gory details.

Why else are films made for except to make money ??..The film concentrated on a few stories ...how could it do them all..personally I found it to be a very good film indeed
