Life would be pretty boring if it was pre determined only so many people can become great

I like the idea that at at any moment something wonderfull can happen so no not a fan of fate

I like to think that life is a series of choices but those choices are determined by certain parameters and for most people they are predetermined through birth. There are those who are exceptions to this but for most where and when they are born is fate that stays with us for the rest of our lives. So yes I believe in fate up to a point.

Is that more to do with limits and expectations than fate?

Can one believe in fate partially or as only applicable to certain people? If fate affects only certain areas of our lives or particular people where does it's influence end?

Totally agree and along those paths are opportunities and pitfalls or better termed as being in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time . I do believe you can edge your bets and tilt luck your way . That’s known as effort and hard work

No I have never believed in fate. I think we choose our path. Some go down the wrong path and some choose the right. My sister is an example of this. Brought up same way as me and my other two siblings. She has a tough life. Despite numerous attempts by her family to get out of a bad relationship, she decided against this and chose her path & therefore shes had nothing but grief and pain because of it.

You cant say our paths were predetermined.. we chose them and sometimes you have to make tough decisions to have a better life.

It's an interesting discussion. Im not sure if our lives are predetermined or not, I think human beings tend to look for reasons for what happens to them and phrases like "fate stepped in" make it easier to absolve themselves of responsibility.

This is what I was thinking. My rational mind knows and understands that we look for links in things. Our brains constantly strive to find reason.

But then there are things that come along that just feel right. Like there is no effort or decisions to be made. It just is. Like it was meant to be. The things that happen, the way things feel, there's no other explanation.

Personally I believe that human beings have far more abilities in terms of intuition than we credit ourselves for. Therefore when things coincide we intuitively know it's right and will continue to be because we've unconsciously worked it out.

I haven't articulated that well and maybe you're fated never to understand what I mean

I think as people to a point we control our destiny.. for example I was incredibly unhappy in my work life so I made the conscious decision to get off my arse and do something about it... however sometimes I do believe we are destined for certain things to happen as well...and that fate takes control!? xx

I'm not sure in all honesty. I think they are interlinked. Its fate to be born where and when you are and for the vast majority of people that is what determines their choices.

Sorry Nicecouple561 for not replying sooner, as above I have just arrived home from work.

I believe everyone has choices but its fate that determines what those choices are in all aspects of peoples lives. You are born into whatever situation, socially, environmentally, geographically, and that influences the person you become which in turn influences the choices you make. Some people do find a way to break this but for the majority its influence never ends.

No I'm the same. I have quite a scientific black and white kinda mind. Fate makes no sense to me. We are born, we live, we die. That makes sense.

I had events recently which are to most a random set of coincidences but the volume of them has been phenomenal and all involve one person.

I guess I agree with your point about intuition. Maybe because subconsciously I know it's right I've been allowing things to be open and just happen naturally. It just feels like the coincidences have been leading somewhere.

I'm probably not wording it well either.

I guess my view is that I'm in control of my own life but I have a wee bit of doubt sometimes and I'm ok with that. If fate is real then it's giving me a good hand right now and I'm grateful.
