FAB CRAP RUNNERS' CLUB

WEEK EIGHTEEN!!!!

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Eighteen! Aaaaaaaaaaand it’s the Fab Crap Runners’ Social on Saturday!!! Everyone is welcome. You don’t have to run.

It sounds like you’re all doing incredibly well. I love that some are aiming for new challenges (10km - wow!)

Please RSVP for parkrun on Saturday.

.

.

.

STOP PRESS... STOP PRESS... STOP PRESS... STOP PRESS... STOP PRESS...

Two dates for your diaries. PLEASE RSVP!

1) The next Fab Crap Runners' Club parkrun and social will be at 8.45am on Sat 5 May 2018 at the Great Denham parkrun near Bedford followed by coffee and gossip in a nearby pub (Brewers Fayre Bedford South, MK42 7FY). All welcome. Please RSVP by direct message.

Attending (I think! Please tell me if I’ve missed you or added you when I shouldn’t have):

MrsTrellis,

Psylocke,

Mr Alleycat,

Bitch,

Twat,

Nick007,

KinkyMare,

Lost_Diver,

CrazyHorse58,

SN1977,

HarryJones1975,

Only-Drew,

Simply Fun40,

nerdynympho,

waverunner.

2) The FCRC sex-club social will be on 8 June at Vanilla Alternative from 8pm. (Please note, you'll need to ensure you're a member of the club and that you've booked a place well in advance). Again, please RSVP.

.

.

.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving our fitness through running. None of us were natural athletes (I was a natural couch potato!) but we did it anyway.

.

.

.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (I used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

.

.

.

AND FINALLY:

Remember, you don’t have to be a good runner to post here. We’re proud of everyone.

Mrs Trellis x

PS - Don't forget to RSVP for the socials! All are welcome. Please RSVP by direct message.

Hi everyone

Sorry I’ve not been in touch much. And... big confession... I have run for two weeks!

I need to get going again because I don’t want to lose the progress I made. I’ll try to go today.

Please let me know if you’re coming to the social. It’ll be lovely to see everyone.

I’ve actually got my 10k this weekend. I’ll try and get a run in during this week, but no training so far (like of time and commitment I suppose) And with the words of my wife. ‘I’m worried about you!”

But, I’m mentally preparing, and that’s everything in sports I think.

A bit of advice please, how can I listen to music whilst running without carrying a phone? Stupid question I know, but I would like something cheap and cheerful.

"A bit of advice please, how can I listen to music whilst running without carrying a phone? Stupid question I know, but I would like something cheap and cheerful."

eBay. Any MP3 player or iPod.

But, an iPod touch are around 100 new, so a used one will be a good price.

Just to confirm that I will be there on Saturday.

I've also booked myself in for a 10k on Sunday can't remember the last time I actually ran that distance. However, it is a course I know very well - my legs will remember where to go, right?

Ignitemybody - let me know what you get, I have a few armband holder things that may help.

Or if you get a ipod shuffle, they have a clip attached.

I don't particularly want to use my phone as it's a bit big for running.

I use an iPod shuffle (the little square one). Very tiny, and I do recommend.

An MP3 player is just not an iPod. Apple would kill me if I called there music device the same thing as anyone else.

I didn't call the shuffle an mp3 player. I just suggested it because I know it has a clip. Most mp3 players don't.

Be careful with ipods as you have to do music with itunes!!

Years ago someone bought me an ipod and itunes wiped all my music off my computer so I could only listen to it through itunes, extremely annoying and was binned very soon afterwards, I use my old phone and have a waistband which is great as I have my keys in there too

Another run today....last time near the end i felt quite refreshed and wondered if it was because the end was near or if i could actually go further so today i tried further and i found out the hard way that it was because the end was near pmsl.....

So todays run was 7k, 8.21 average pace, still couldn't run continuously but feel good and its great to see green and blossom blooming then there's the birds and squirrel's.

Had a bit of a moment as i was going round, my dad used to run and i think of him every time I'm running and smile when i see the robins, i know he'd be proud of me, i haven't told anyone other than you guys that I'm running.....

Happy running guys

Did my first run of week 3 on Couch to 5k last night and was surprised at how well I felt after the leap from 90 second runs to a 3 minute one. Looking forward to the next 2 runs this week.

Getting my running assessed and as a result buying the correct shoes has help massively, I've also noticed that my fitness on the bike has increased too. It's surprising that you can hop on a bike ride 100 miles or ride up big hills with no issues, but running causes issues. Here's to 5k and beyond

After 2 weeks of being lifeless and not chasing pugs since the 11th april, I got back out today. I expected it to be difficult, and wasnt wrong, but managed to carry on from where I left off which surprised me more. Only on week 3 but that 3 minutes today felt much longer (probably because of my absence).

But im pleased and now to get ready for a relaxing massage

I haven’t run for over a week, maybe even two due to life getting in the way. I went out again last night and did a different route but still managed 5k quite easily *

* I looked like I’d been exercising at 120% of peak heart rate for a year, but I was just about still alive

Yes, the hills are all going down for the first 2k and then all going up for the last 2k. Does it still count as running when you're on your hands an knees?

First 10k last night - well, 9.8k according to MapMyRun, but I'm claiming it. 1hr 4min, so target is now to get under an hour (and to find an extra 200m somewhere on my route to make up the distance!)

Haven't been on a bike for a few months and can definitely feel that in my legs!!!

Will see how they feel in the morning, weather I go for a run or not.

Got my bike back from the shop after a service yesterday. looking forward to - and dreading - what will be the first ride in months "

I got a turbo trainer for the winter to avoid the first ride pain.

2nd run of week 3 of Couch to 5k tonight, then riding into work in the morning via the hilly route

In one of my snoozing sections this morning, I had a nightmare about my race on Sunday.

I was late and had to pick up my number on the day. The woman refused to give me my number because I was so late, so I rummaged through her postal sack type bag to find a newspaper ( ). I eventually found the newspaper I wanted, gave up on the number, to then go running. I then realised my watch battery was low and the course was completely different to what I was expecting!

I then woke up.

Anyone else had running related nightmares?

"You know the parkruns are they the same distance all over the country?"

Hi,

All the parkruns are 5k (3.1 miles).

There are some junior parkruns for kids which are either held after the main one, or on a Sunday (check the website for locations). They are for under 14's and are a shorter distance (I believe 2k).

It could be that either would suit us regarding the Park runs. I understand there might be quite a challenging one just the other side of the Welsh border too. Shame we can't chat privately. It looks like we are outside your age range.

Drinking too much water while running on a hot day can be very dangerous because you sweat out salt and dilute your blood.

People have died from drinking too much.

You should drink only if your thirsty or dehydrated.

And when you drink you should have electro lights not just plain water because it will absorb in the gut quicker.

I use power aid because it has glucose as well as sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium which are the main minerals you loose from sweat.

Yes, overhydration is a problem, but not for a 5k.

Plain water is just fine for that.
