I love a good American Football movie, tonight I watched Facing the Giants on Netflix. I was tricked! It pretends to be a football movie, but it's actually a Jesus movie!

What's your favourite sports movie? I'm thinking maybe Rember the Titans?

There and to the left a bit

The Top 100 sports movies was a question on the Nick Knowles quiz last night- so many good ones but for me favourite would have to be either Mean Machine (the original Burt Reynolds one) or Slap Shot with an honourable mention for the, so cheesy it's good, Escape To Victory

Field of Dreams without doubt. Always tear up at the end with Ray Liota. "if you build it, HE will come" And anything with James Earl Jones is usually a good film anyway.

Honourable mentions to Major League, Tin Cup and if you want a film for a good laugh with an all star cast and like American football but probably haven't heard of then have a watch of "The Replacements" Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman Rhys Ifans and a few others. A proper hideen gem

Well not really a sport movie per se, but it is sport related.

'Africa United'

It is the story of four young african who walk three thousand miles through Africa to get to see the world cup in South Africa.

Surprised no one yet mentioned

"sporting life" a gritty mid 60's northern film about Rugby league, with Richard Harris.

also admire major league.

One of the best sporting films in my opinion is "The Club" about an aussie rules club.

One of the film channels has recently shown a film entitled "Rooney" no not about what Wayne gets up to but about a hurling star who works for Dublin Corporation as a dustman, and reluctantly gets involved with woman....

oh hang on it could be an ancestor of Wayne.....

You've gotta love this speech from Rocky Balboa:

Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done!

"Rocky 4"

I beliebe Stallone got his BMI down to 2.8% for the filming of this!

In the movie, Rocky helps calm the hostility of the Cold War... I wonder if the Americans gave Stallone as a gift to the USSR when he was in this physical state would it have calmed things down?

Instead he ended up in a bunch of Vietnam movies
