But if you receive a message and want to see what it says without opening it just go to sent messages and open it there. It will shows it as unread. Obviously you need to send a message first and get a reply.

I start threads occasionally.

Still don’t understand why you’d want to read a message without opening, unless you don’t want the sender to know you’ve seen it, which eliminates the whole purpose of messaging.

Rather pathetic really

In your opinion, yes. Others may see it as a handy easy to see if they wish to reply to what's written later without giving the impression is been read and ignored. Others may use it more sinisterly. It's just something I noticed.

Oh, we tend to read messages when we notice them and reply to them if interested. We’re obviously a bit weird

I'll take your word for it.

Does it not do the same if you read the message and then mark it unread anyway? It’s done this in the tests we have done. C x

Broadly this. I don’t always reply straight away for a number of reasons (usually dull, practical reasons as opposed to anything underhand or “pathetic”).

Very often I have found that I’ve opened a message, not responded instantly and when I go back to my messages the open one has been supplemented by abuse and stroppy crap because I didn’t drop my life and respond in a nano second. Hence I tend to read and mark as unread.

However, if not getting an instant response results in a mahoooooosive diva strop, I wouldn’t have got on with them anyway.
