Anyone ever put a hat in the wash

to shrink it to fit? i bought this flat cap and its too big for me. i read online somewhere u can shrink them in the wash.

so i washed it and its defo shrunk. was about 2 inches too big before and now its about half an inch off being a perfect fit. can you wash them again for the same results? or isit a 1 time deal

Usually a one time deal I think. However tumble drying shrinks too, if you can tumble dry it that is.

Years ago my dad always reshaped his hat over the steam from the kettle.

thanks for the tip might stick it in the dryer then. does it need to be wet?

I know a lot of forces people wet a new beret to get them to fit and to shape them properly ,wouldnt want to try it twice tho .

from what am reading, seems heat is my best way of maximum shrinkage. all i did before was put it on a cold wash and let it air dry.

apparantly a hot wash and a hot dry gives alot better results. i only need another 1/2 inch tho so am scared of over-doing it now

got caught in a summer shower wearing me floppy hat and it is extremely floppy now!

You are going about things the wrong way. Start bragging till your head swells to fit it lol. Well it was a thought
