I am currently looking to buy a new house.

The problem I'm having is other than the fact it must have a bath I have no other specifics to look for.

How on earth are you meant to pick?!?

If you were looking for a new home what would be on your list of must-haves and what else would swing it for you?

Mine would definitely need a door so I could get in and out.

Also a really big kitchen would be a must have

A garden with evening sunshine.

Yes for those couple of days each year where you can sit out in the evening warmth.

What is it with people fascinations for big kitchens? Big family presumably other than that though?

When you're looking for a place it's surprising what you think you want compared to what you eventually end up with .

For us we must have a garden, off road parking for two cars, a garage, at least two bedrooms, detached and a good "feel".

We thought we didn't want to be in the middle of an estate, in a certain location or need too much work...this house is all of those things and we're very happy here

Stoke area

I am looking too.

I need parking for Motorhome and car.

Two or three bedrooms.

Flat back garden, current one is on a big hill with lots of tiers.

Near shops and on a bus route for son.

Open views.. .Not in the middle of an Estate.

Within easy reach of My job, hobbies and favourite swingers club.

No major renovation work needed.

Garage or large shed.

Within my budget.

Other houses nearby look well cared for, gardens tended and not half a car in the front garden.

Not that I am fussy

.

Things I won't compromise on -

bath,

original minton tiles,

off road parking,

low maintenance garden

period property - no older than 1890sish

high ceilings

three bedrooms

I only bought the current house a couple of years ago and that was my rough list. I like a doer upper but no massive issues flagged up at the survey.

The right location,

Semi detached with a garden,

Even though I will be living there alone the rooms need to be a decent size as it will probably be the last time I move house, Been looking for over 18 months

Biggest on my list is something I can afford. Given property places in the area I'm in, that includes studio flats and some one bedrooms.

Bleh.

For me a nice garden to sit in, a nice size dining room as I enjoy having friends over for dinner.

Think about the things you really appreciate in your current place that you wouldn’t like to lose, but also those things that you would like to add that will improve your quality of living. That should give you some clues to start with.

Then rank them in a list from most to least important so you have some priorities that you could never sacrifice as well as things that are a bonus but not essential.

Never thought of it like that, need more outside the box thinking don't I, I'm impressed however, that this is a key part of your house choice! Not merely enough house parties I've found

I’m mid purchase. I was after parking, a reasonably sized garden, something that didn’t need much work and a quiet location as I’m a poor sleeper! Also good storage for my bikes.

Parking and I’d drive round different times of the day. Some streets there’s never a space.

I’d be checking the crime levels in the area i was looking.

South facing garden.

Ensuite on the master bedroom.

Walking distance of good amenities.

My biggest criteria whenever I've been looking has been somewhere as safe as it can possibly be to reduce the risk of my cats getting run over. Hence prospective houses are defined as 'cf' (cat friendly) or 'non-cf' !

In an ideal world, I'd also want a big kitchen, a big bathroom (preferably a wet room) and a 'spare' room I can fill with books. Plus a decent sized garden large enough for chickens and veg growing, and few neighbours. Keeping my fingers crossed for a lottery win then

Closed off stairs, nothing that comes straight in to a room. Separated rooms, I don’t go for open plan, otherwise there is no escaping your family

Slough Windsor ish

We are in a big 2 bed flat in a tower block so our biggest wish would be a private secluded southfacing garden with room for a hottub! Parking for 3 cars, 3 bedrooms 1 en suite, good sized kitchen diner, lounge with doors onto the garden.

When we next move it will be forever....

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I'd only move if I didn't have money, my family moved or I couldn't manage stairs anymore.

If it's the last then I'll move into one of the flats in the sheltered block at the end of my road. If it's the first I'll move oop North to a house with 3 bedrooms (so people have somewhere to stay when they visit).

If it's the middle one then I'll just go where they go and get something close enough that we're not in each other's pockets but not too far from each other.

3/4 bed semi with drive for at least 2 cars plus garage in need of full modernisation with as little gardening to do as possible but space for dogs. I bought it 19 years ago. After modernising it throughout making it mine and just the way I wanted it. Then after all that about 6/7 years ago rather than sell it as I was now living alone I split it up and made a 1 bed flat for me to live in and the rest I turned back into the 3 bed house how it originally started and I've rented that out ever since. I have to have the only 1 bed flat with a 2 car drive and a garage but it's what I need and the best bit it's all mine. There's no better feeling I tell ya. Good luck finding yours rubi. Only advice I'd say is think long term and take your time finding what it is you really want.
