"Didn’t run last week sadly. But getting back on it this week. Having a bit of a problem with really sore feet at the minute. Both feet, on the side about half way along. Anyone know what it might be? Is it a common running problem? Am I just getting too old? " Have you ever had your gait analysed? It might be that you overpronate, but are wearing neutral shoes.

"Hey everybody, just stumbled across this thread and hope you don’t mind me joining in! I was lucky enough to run/walk through the streets of London yesterday..... had a great time which I’d recommend to anyone I was beaten by a sprinting Zippy in the last 100 yards as well as a load of other assorted creatures by the time I finished but at least I had a big smile on my face! Absolutely no running (and hardly any walking) today though " The more, the merrier. Well done on completing London. It was a hot one out there yesterday? I've wanted to run it since the first time I saw it on tv (I think I was about 7). I once did a 10k and was beaten by a load of bananas...

"It was boiling yesterday...... so much so they ran out of water at some of the stops I think the ballot for next year opens next week so get your hat in the ring..... you’ll love it ! (And nothing wrong being beaten by a banana) " It will be the third time I've entered the ballot - each time I was secretly relieved that I hadn't got in. "Long day out in London yeaterday. Specifically supporting the runners running for the charity my girlfriend ran VLM for in 2016. I've pretty much lost my voice and got bruised hands! Not once did I wish I was running it, the heat was brutal. Back on it tonight with a run through the fields planned as my commute home" As a 1st time runner it was brutual and the water stations running out of water was a joke.. If it hadnt been for spectators more then the 750 DNF would of happened.

However, it is difficult for the organisers to plan for exactly how many bottles they need at each station - it is not practical to have 40,000 bottles at every water station. And yes, I have done a race on a blazing hot day where they ran out of water. What does annoy me is that they give out full sized bottles of water which people only take one or two sips out of then throw away. There are alternatives.

"It’s probably been said already in these threads but Parkrun has been fantastic getting people up and out to exercise in the great outdoors. It was a brilliant concept and works so well. I did my first 4 years ago and it has led to me completing 6 half marathons. I have lost a little weight, built some leg muscle and my confidence and general well being has improved. I haven’t become a total slave to or addict to running either especially in the winter but everyone finds there own level and a BIG WELL DONE to everyone on here who has found the motivation to get going and has broken through there own physical and mental barriers to finish a Parkrun When I run at the Exeter, Killerton or Exmouth Parkruns on a Saturday morning I often look around and wonder if any of the runners are fellow Fabsters too!! Lol .......Devon Parkrunners reveal yourselves!! " parkrun - all one word and in lower case. I've not done those parkruns, but I know the area slightly. I used to work in a hotel on Dartmoor.

I also went passed a water station at around mile 22, that hadnt ran out and even though the sweeper car had gone passed and the station was officially closed volunteers had stayed back to make sure the stragglers were okay. There was the equivalent of 4.5 litres of water per runner on the course, if runners had listened to the advice of taking just one bottle there wouldn't have been an issue. I've been at a race where water ran out early on and people were dropping like flies, I was also at Brighton last year and saw how distressed runners were when water had ran out. That simply wasn't happening on sunday and even the back markers passing me did not appeared to have had significant problems with a lack of water.

Hugh Brasher (the event coordinator) has said that 4.5 litres of water were available per runner, more than any other mass-participation event in the world, but water did run out at miles 8,9 and 10. I guess that’s when water was being used more for cooling than hydration and many runners in the middle of the field were starting to realise just how tough the day was going to be.

"Just checking in. Yesterday I went for a long walk with the dog. Any advice for a sore hip. I did parkrun the other week think I jarred it running on the mud. It was sore for a couple of days then stopped but flared up yesterday. Not sure if it was the position I'd been in the night before or the walk. Should I carry on or rest ? Thanks on advance x " Don’t run give it two weeks rest

"Didn’t run last week sadly. But getting back on it this week. Having a bit of a problem with really sore feet at the minute. Both feet, on the side about half way along. Anyone know what it might be? Is it a common running problem? Am I just getting too old? Have you ever had your gait analysed? It might be that you overpronate, but are wearing neutral shoes. I haven’t. And to be honest I didn’t know that was a thing. Where would I get my gait analysed? In Peterborough there are two shops you can try Advanced Performance and Sweatshop. I've not used the first, but know people that have and they liked the shop. I've personally used the Sweatshop in Peterborough and found the staff nice and helpful. (I used to live locally and have done the Peterborough half twice). I believe with both shops, gait analysis is free if you buy a pair of trainers from them. I'm not sure how much they charge if you don't. Thanks for the info. I will get over there and see if they can sort me out. Thank you for the help!!" Be careful with sweatshop and running on a treadmill is a totally different way of running to road running. Sweatshop sold me some Support trainers even though I’ve only worn neutral as they said I needed them. I did two 18 mile runs and was injured for 6 months

"I had my gait assessed running on the road with the Physio watching behind and confirmed I’m neutral" Tbh, that's not the normal way. Most don't have access to a physio. That must have cost more than the trainers. I think all the other experienced runners on here say the same - go to a sports shop. It's more accessible. You are the only person out of the hundreds (yes, literally) of runners I know that has had a problem.

As mentioned treadmill running is not real world running, but can show tendencies. Easy enough to get your own analysis, I pad/phone download an app, get filmed , use software to assess, poss consult a coach/ physio about results .

" After running on Sunday i feel rightly placed to comment, there was not water at 8,9,10 from very early on for the mid runners, i am not fast a run in the 13 min/mile bracket, i think people taking to were under the instruction of the water stations further up had ran out. I ran past plenty of water stations that had packed up and even started sweeping up the bottles, of which i had to pick bottles out the gutter just to get water. After all the emails that VMLM sent out about slowing pace etc, more water added. It seems them giving out bottles just to be sipped then thrown in the gutter just up the road explains where a lot of the water went. Also advice was to empty the bottle then throw it, this allows they to crush under foot rather than roll causing injury. All in all in was brutual out there with no water for miles, and i wasnt even the slowest. The water is supplied by a sponsor (not bought) why have a limit? Just return the pallets of disused water to the sponsor. Lucazade in large 500ml bottles, i’m sure no one drank that much in one hit.. again they wont make small bottles of it as its not cost effective, so you end up with open bottles with a couple mouthfuls out, plus the stuff is awful when you are actually needing fluids. I think VMLM were very lucky more people werent injured duevto lack of hydration, the spectators did amazing job of buying water or even bringing large jugs out of their houses to keep runners in water. They have said that there will be an investigation into the water situation and will reply in a week or so.

You seem to be doing amazingly , so best if luck and let us know how you get on x

"Anyone doing parkrun this morning. I went to bed at 2 and I'm awake thinking about doing it then sleep later ? My nipples don't hurt/rub does this mean I'm not working hard enough or not got big enough boobs " I can't do parkrun this morning as I'm doing a charity 10k at the ad time. I have seen your boobs but I'm sure they just fine, probably got the right bra!

"Did parkrun yesterday my results still arent in, I hope they scanned it properly. I know I was slower coz my hip was sore but still nice to know. I'm going circuits this morning burn off the ice cream I had yesterday. " Have you checked the results page on their local parkrun page? I've had a quick look at the all events results page and it looks like all the results are in. If you are missing, you can contact the office and they'll add you in.

"An enforced six day rest for me. Rain, rain (I do not run in rain) club visits and CBA resulted in a PB today of 5.3k in 30 minutes. Happy Tops. Top work " Ta. I’m on a park bench enjoying the sight of spring birds and then I’m gokng to do a quick jog up an incline before my favourite sprint downhill all the way home. That should get my lungs stretched and I usually get some admiring glances that I like.
