Do you believe in karma?

According to the OED the definition of karma is (in Hinduism and Buddhism) the sum of a persons actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences..

My thoughts about it were always a bit ambivalent but as the now ex wife of a man who used his fists to settle arguements, and who kept me fear of him for years.. i was financially and domestically abused and had to also protect my son from his wrath..

So imagine how i felt when a mutual friend told me he had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone disease.. well actually i felt nothing but my son said he knew karma would pay 'that man a visit some day' .. out of the mouths of babes

No, I don't believe in karma.

It doesn't sit well with me that a child could be born into a life of suffering because their previous lives were bad in some way. Charlie Gard and Alfie Evans must have done some bad stuff in previous incarnations.

Also there are plenty of people who do terrible things and live a life of luxury and apparent happiness.

It doesn't add up in my opinion

No. If I did I would not believe it's instant. The teachings, as I understand them, are that karma affects your next life and you learn from that before moving on. You might repeat lessons or have new ones.

No I don't believe in Karma. As another person has said, there are some truly evil people in this world yet they live happy lives. Meanwhile the nicest of people struggle and suffer.

oh yesssss definately.a few people who have hurt me have had karma blessed upon them.you can't go through life treating people like shit and expect to get away with it.

In local paper about a year ago a car thief stole somebody’s car police chased him the thief crashed the car and ended up in a wheelchair the rest of his life and his family tried to get compensation from Cleveland police unbelievable still was a satisfying out come hope the blokes got his insurance pay out for his car

Yes I believe in it. Yes there are scumbags who glide through life without a care in the world and they hurt people. Whether it’s mentally or physically. But things catch up with people in the end. They either die young or end up old and lonely with no one giving a shit about them.

Look at anyone's life long enough and you'll generally see peaks and troughs.

Maybe we notice the pitfalls of those who have wronged us more intently?

Life's chaotic and doesn't go the way we always want. All we can do is steer it as best we can.

I just think we tend to think of karma as applying to other people.

My bullying ex husband died a painful death ten years ago ... he was an alcoholic ... also someone who controlled me in a relationship for far too long is recovering from throat cancer and the second husband a gambler had a heart attack a few years back .... he stole from me etc etc to find the addiction

so yep I believe in Karma what you out out you receive back ..... Law of Attraction too

I'm hoping it exists. But too many good people die young so I'm not so sure.

If it does exist I should be living a charmed life

It's currently missed someone that really needs a visit from it, someone that continues to treat people like shit and more and more stories come out about him but he's on his own has no real friends and because of the way he treats woman they never stay around long so maybe he is getting karma that way as when his parents get to a age he will be left with no one.

But then wishing bad karma on someone is surely a way to get bad karma yourself?

I believe that too. I think your bad deeds, thoughts, words affect your "self". That doesn't mean bad things happen to you in the form of illness etc. I don't think the universe deals in revenge.

Not true. I don't class myself as a bad person. I've always cared for others sacrificing my own needs for them. I've worked in a caring role most of my life. But I've lost my sister, Mum and dad all at young ages. I gave up my whole life style (job,house, area I lived in, moved from friends) to look after a family member.

So am I a bad Person if bad things only happen to bad people??

If Karma does exist, then surely spending time wishing ill on others, regardless if they deserve it in your eyes, will condem you to be a figure of hate in someone else's eyes in the next life. Perhaps in order to be that hate figure, you have to be the wife eater, baby shaker or general twat. If you believe in the principles of Karma then you shouldn't be carrying hate, it's not a virtue pick'n'mix.

Karma is cause and effect but applied to the next life. That applies to good and bad actions (causes).

As I stated above, if I believed in it I couldn't believe it's instant (this lifetime). I can believe in cause and effect that is immediate and longer-term across a lifetime but I wouldn't call it karma.
