Newcastle and Gateshead

okay, since part 6 ended and no one set up the next chapter i'll do it...

first of all i am going to be gracious and congratulate gloucester on their challenge cup semi win against newcastle....

okay.. enough of that!!!!!

semi final 1 in the big boy cup... leinster vs scarletts....

i think this one could be a festival of running rugby.... which scares me because i think the scarletts are the better loose play side.....

still hoping for that all-ireland european cup final....

boy this semi is being played at a lightening pace.... you do notice the difference the speed of a pro 14 game over a aviva premiership game

Been away, so missed quite a lot of rugby .

I see that despite scarlets holding back their first team from the thumping Edinburgh gave them, their first team got well and truly done by Leinster in the cup.

Was surprised by the Gloucester Newcastle score - thought Newcastle would do better than the score line suggests

Leinster played quality rugby with fantastic use of the Garryowen by Johnny Sexton

Hate to say I called it. But I fucking called it.

Racing have hit form at the right time and had enough about them to do a job on Munster.

Can they beat Leinster? No. Not if Leinster play like that again. Most international teams would have lost to Leinster Saturday.

Blues v Glaws will be a good game too.

Announcement that Peter Stringer is retiring from rugby.

“My proudest days on a rugby field came from wearing the red of Munster and the green of Ireland, and will remain with me for the rest of my life," he said.

Great player that I always enjoyed watching

just thought i would bump this back up with the announcement of the retirement of wales and lions captain sam warburton from all forms of rugby

he was only 29... citing health and wellbeing concerns...

thought if he was going to call it a day it would have been after the world cup next year.....

wales are fortunate to have a lot of good back-rowers, but still a biggie!!!!

The right place

It’s a shame he was a fantastic player and leader. And it feels too soon. I guess only he can know when it’s time to call it a day. But he’ll be missed from the game.

"it had become clear to Warburton that he wouldn't be able to return to the high standards he has set throughout his career"

Quite sad when this happens to a sports person.

Fantastic player, fantastic person as well. He will be a big loss to us but we didn't see much of him last year.

All the best to him

In terms of losing him it isnt that bad, our back row selection is up there with the best in the NH, however, Warburton was way more than just a back row, he was a leader & example & in that instance will be sorely missed, however, a grand slam, captaining Wales for 49 games & 2 lions captaincies without losing a series is immense!

It sounds indicative of the pressures physically and mentally of the modern game. It is a shame to see him go.

Being the resident rugby nut I am going to both European rugby finals in Newcastle this weekend... why I am watching 2 french teams tonight is beyond me... lol

Anyway.. 2 questions

1) who wins the biggie tomorrow? Leinster or Saracens

2) looks like Gatland has been named lions coach for the next South Africa tour.. thoughts?

Me personally... I would have liked to have seen joe Schmidt given a chance

In regard 2, in the way you pick to play the in form players, you pick the in form coach.

1. Leinster

2. Disappointed they have gone with the easy choice of Gatland - Agree about Schmidt.
