As for being insulting, I'd always thought it was implying that women were exchanging sex for food, as if they couldn't get the food for themselves, or that sex was not viewed as anything other than currency.

I don't really think the phrase has any basis in fact, I think it's just plain insulting, probably made up by some misogynistic fool way back in the past.

But, I could be completely wrong, and there is a good reason for the phrase, which is why I said I've never really understood it. I do inwardly cringe a little everytime I hear it.

If a person is willing to pay another person for sex, and the other person is willing to receive money for sex, does it affect you? The phrase has nothing to do with exchanging food for sex or sex as currency. It is simply designed to point out that the exchanging of money for sex has been going on for a very, very long time, as long as anyone can remember. It used to be much more socially acceptable, and is less so now. £100 for an hour for sex seems pretty cheap to me.

However you only have to look at certain sites to see a big variance in what's on offer and at what price.

For some paying £40 for a fumble and a BJ in a car seems expensive, whereas for others, paying £100 plus purely for a happy massage without any sex is worth it.

I imagine like most things, you get what you pay for.

I wouldn't slate anyone for using or offering services. So long as there's consent.

I also think that often people are paying for company because they are lonely. The sex is only a small part of it

A town near you

I was in the suburbs of Manchester a few months ago and on the way back to the hotel the taxi driver asked us did we want to go back to the hotel as he knew a decent brothel nearby, we asked him about prices out of curiosity and he said approx 50 pound for sex he said then said he would only take us if we would pay his way at the brothel lol

I don't think it's a lot as I think some of the women that do it don't really want to it's out of desperation.

And to be able to cut you mind off from what's happening if it's someone who you wouldn't normally have sex with takes a lot of mental strength.
