What makes you start a thread?

Do you think about it first or do it on impulse?

Do you go back and check it? Do you care how many replies you get?

If you don't start threads why not?

Haha that's exactly why I do it. I find people interesting. I like finding out how they think.

I don't start threads. I don't reckon anyone would be interested enough in my thoughts and musings to respond, plus I am quite shy in real life and rarely start conversations with strangers - and starting a thread on here is a digital equivalent. Instead I get my lateral thinking on by reacting to other people's thoughts and musings. Often tangentially; but that's not on purpose, just how my brain works.

I think some people start threads just to seek attention . Others have over active imaginations and way too much time on their hands.

It’s nice to start a thread to provoke a fun conversation too.

Somewhere In The Ether…

The threads I have started previously were simply too controversial it seems.

For instance the ‘Maris Pipers vs King Edwards’ one almost started a riot and led to a few people falling out after years of previous friendship....

"What makes you start a thread?

Numerous reasons - a topic I want to discuss and hear opinion on, a specific question I want answered, a time-filler in distraction mostly when I’m trying not to worry about something else, a need for filth outletting and a cathartic journaling into the ether.

I always think before posting. Not necessarily for long but I’m a ruminator so I can’t shake off the continual brain whirr.

I go back and check on certain threads as my usual style is to reply to each post. I’ve freed myself up from that on a few threads (ones that are just more “would you rather” questions that are just for lighting the touch paper to, although I may comment on a few of the posts if fancy it). On the whole I usually post when I have the time to nurture responses.

I don’t care how many responses I get, no. Not per se. I do enjoy interacting and reading the responses though. And it’s less likely to be frowned upon to talk a lot on your own thread then it is on other people’s (even if you’re enjoying interacting) and so you’re less likely to be chastised or critiqued!

"What are your answers to your questions OP? "

Mostly to interact I guess. Sometimes I'm just bored.

I tend to do both, if I have time to commit to responding then I'd ask a more in depth question but often a thread will come from a random thought or conversation I've had.

I always look back at responses and while my goal isn't about the number of responses it does feel good to see something go from my mind to make people want to reply.

This for me too.

The one time I started a thread (in a fit of pique) I got sent to the naughty step. So I'm content to just jump on someone else's bandwagon.

I often think of what may appear to be good topics but the actual topic I post often seems quite different.

I stick with many of them - often because I'd had the idea in my head very clearly but many people have limited grasp of what I meant, so usually clarify. Most posts are spur of the moment and I forget what they were called.

I started a few

1 was things that remind you off your granny. I started it because I was making scrambled egg and remembered my grannys was amazing and wanted to hear all the other things from years ago

Another was things your parents do that make you cringe. It was a thread I would have enjoyed reading as my parents do loads of stuff that make you howl with laughter

It's the kind of threads I enjoy reading that's why I posted. Didn't get many comments tho x

For me it's simple. I start and participate in threads because this is an open forum where I can get relevant, honest, and open opinions, without judgement or prejudice...

Also, great way to meet new people...
