Had u try to make a hot Bath , drink. Hot tea , and just get fully cover in bed ? Making u sweeting and maybe u will fill better

My Mum suffers with this. You need to massage your sciatic nerve. Also, lie on your back and put each ankle on the opposite knee to stretch.

I suffer from this and a combination of diazepam pregabalin co cododamol ibruprophen and tiger balm is only thing that helped I’m afraid so I would recommend doctors asap xx

More often than not, though not always, sciatica is the product of a bulging disc giving the sciatic nerve a bit of a slap.

One way to ease this can be to lie on your front, and while keeping your lower-body (hips down) and your hands in the press up position (by your shoulders or further forward if necessary) gently push your upper-body off of the ground.

This will normally be limited to probably just your chest coming off of the ground. Gently lower yourself back to the ground and repeat.

I wait untill my pain is really bad then 2 ibruprophen and it goes.

Not getting it much these days as I'm not cycling at the moment to to a health issue; it's a lot more frequent when I'm exercising.

I find getting up and doing stuff is the only way I can get through it xx I have my pain management on Monday going to ask for better management xx

I’m the same, but I was already in bed when it came on

since starting boxing it hasn’t been as bad, I’ve been referred for physiotherapy but god knows when I’ll get the letter for that

I get it in my shoulder..

Best thing for it is painkillers and tiger balm but also you need to try and keep moving

Ask your doctor for physio and a referral to the musculoskeletal clinic. Are you getting any numbness or pins and needles?

Lie on your back and then whichever side the pain is, lift that knee up towards your chest and hold for about five seconds or longer if you can manage. It helps stretch the nerve out.

O.P you have my sympathy.

I have had similar problems with sciatica and also with and old injury ti one of my vertebrae. I'm guessing the pain is mainly caused by muscle spasm amongst other things.. I eventually went to a chiropractor but what actually sorted things out and helped immensely was actually acupuncture, I was lucky that the lady chiro had also trained as an acupuncturist..

I didn't know much about acupuncture but apparently once the needles are in and she gently wiggled them it was almost like a light bulb moment, The wiggling is supposed to relieve the muscle spasm. It's only a suggestion but perhaps worth considering.

Mine has been particularly bad lately, I just keep moving and take paracetamol, I find doing a bit of yoga helps me and a bath.

I hope you feel better soon, it’s horrible

I suffer from that, and psoriatic arthritis.

I have a high pain threshold, but even a double dose of Tramadol only numbs it for a bit.

When they both kick in together, I can't even leave ma flat for days on end

I feel so sorry for you. I don't normally suffer with back problems but I did something wrong at the gym today because instead of being at the pub I'm joined by a tens machine and a hot water bottle. Back pain sucks

If you have just had recent shoulder surgery and you now have sciatic type pain, I'd be contacting the hospital you had it done or call 111 for advice.

lease don't try any of the movements mentioned on here until you have a proper diagnosis unless you feel any of them would be helpful.

Don't mix up analgesia unless you know what you're doing, it is possible to cause permanent liver or kidney damage if you don't.

I've had thus since August. Some days I can't get out bed.

I've only just been referred for an mri scan.

Physio and drugs don't touch it at all.

I'm up next for pain injections into my back or surgery

I feel your pain it's horrendous I know but just pester your doctors to get what you can.

I have this and physio was a great help with meds but an elbow in the bum to loosen the sciatic nerve works wonders. Sounds bonkers but it works, seek medical advice before trying any exercises/meds that aren't already given for you. Good luck lovely

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I get some relief by raising the bum and hip on pain side with a cushion or yoga block when I sit. I don't take oral pain medication (various reasons) but will do the hot/cold thing until I can get an appointment with the osteopath.

Good luck. I hope you find a position that's comfortable.

I suffer from the same myself I went to GP and he prescribed naproxen then went to physio and started stretching exercises which are yoga positions basically haven’t had any problems since doing this regularly. Hope it helps I know what pain your in

I was on Codeine and was taking them like Smarties lol I'm now on Tramadol, but it makes me very drowsy which is why I only take them when I feel too much pain.

Hiya thanks for all your replies.

Luckily I have a physio appointment on Monday for shoulder rehab so gonna be cheeky and ask about sciatica.

Tbh it's caused by a combination of sitting round on my arse for 4 weeks following surgery,but I have managed to get to the gym a few times and have been using the recumbent bike which is not something I usually use and it has caused a reoccurring issue dating back to my ironman/marathon running day's which is very tight IT band's.

Resulting in tight hip flexors.

However this is without doubt the most painful bout of sciatica I have ever had.

I am currently using co dydramol and muscle relaxants to try and release the locked muscles.

I fell off a ladder in 2003 and knocked my pelvis out of alignment.

This has given me a slight weakness on one of my spinea erector muscles.

I used to lay on the floor on my back with my legs on the sofa.

I suffered with it for years, an epidural was the only thing that stopped the pain.

Mate I suffered from this in December finally moving after three months, not going to lie it’s massively painful, couldn’t sit sleep walk. Symptoms are different for everyone, it’s normally because of a disc bulge or your piriformis muscle, but you defo need to start Physio and go see a chiropractor.

As for the meds yes diazepam, codeine and naproxen help but you will need to take low dose of amitriptyline for a few months.

Look at exercises for sciatica and defo do the stretches once or twice a day, try to keep moving and plenty of swimming. But a good starting place is lying on your stomach hands down and pushing yourself upwards, sort of bending backwards whilst lying down, it’s a slow and long road to being fit again.

Hope you get better but it is really painful. Good luck

I was run over by a cow 18 years ago (not as funny as it sounds) injuring my spine as a result. This has left me with some nerve damage and i suffered with sciatica on a regular basis. The GP just poked me, prescribed anti inflammatories and told me to come back in a fortnight (really useful

. I tried chiroptactic treatment for a while but what i found made a real difference was osteopathy. I certainly recommend you try that.

There are stretches for it. I am currently suffering a little bit. My SI joint has slipped and is aggravating it. I have pins and needles in my 3 middle toes.. have 4 weeks until I can see a physio

Hot baths tend to make Sciatica worse!

Hot baths are good for muscle pain, but not for nerve problems like Sciatica -

You need an ice pack on your lower back instead!

Sciatica is caused when the Sciatic nerve is pinched as it comes out of the side of your spine (not in the area where you actually feel the pain).

Heat makes the nerve swell more, increasing the pinch and making the pain worse..!!!

Cold shrinks the nerve, and helps to release the pinch..

You may feel a natural urge to arch your lower back into a backward curve - this actually makes it worse..

Lie on your back and try to tilt your pelvis forward (I'm sure that you know how to do a "Pelvic Thrust"..!) This opens the spine up and releases the nerve. Do it slowly and hold for about 10 seconds, and then relax. Repeat 5 times to start, two or three times a day - then increase slowly over a couple of weeks.

All this is from hard-won experience, after I was struck with a slipped disk in a far, distant country... Never been so glad to get home to the NHS!

Scream at your Doctor as hard as you can until they get you a proper immediate Physio referral. You are entitled to it and you need it..!!!!

i suffer from pain 24/7 neck pain lower back left foot a old motorcycle prang i lost my job hgv driver g/f buggered off nearly lost the house was on naproxene co-codamol amatriptyline nothing touched the pain, physio, pain rehab,chiropractor.tens machine, i was drinking so much to kill the pain sometimes i did not want to wake up but now i just have the co-codamol when it gets bad .

now i work 2 days for the NHS as a driver my son lives with me i still got the house

i do have some bad days when i get Sciatica i take pain killers and strech move about but don't do anything silly

i take fish oil and golden paste and cbd oil this seams to be ok
