I am wondering whether to take a holiday solo this year but can't make up my mind.

Are there any solo holiday companies? Not necessarily swinging holidays, just a get away from it all and switch off holiday would do.

Any suggestions folks? Thanks x

If you're not looking to meet up with others then I'd recommend a city break.

Always lots to do and you can completely please yourself

I often go on holiday on my own, I really enjoy the peace. Downside is you tend to pay almost as much for one person as you would for two

Just You are good but not the cheapest. This is the problem with solo travel, you end up paying more than a family of four! Yet another example of discrimination against single people

Second just you, we've been with their sister company Travelsphere and had a fantastic holiday. Not sure on the pricing for singles but when we went it was excellent value for money.

My friend has also used Just you and made some life long friends along the way

There are threads popping up all the time offerings free holidays to women as long as you don’t mind sharing a room with a single bloke who has a picture of his cock for his profile.

But they always say there’s no pressure to do anything

I’d recommend Intrepid. I’ve travelled with them twice, Indonesia and Borneo. They’re not specifically for singles and couples and pairs of friends can go, but having spoken to the guides, they say most trips have around 50% singles. The age of travellers will vary depending on the level of activity and comfort, but on my trips most people were between late 20s and early 40s. Let me know if you need any more info!

It can be the case though. My Mum and Dad have travelled extensively over the years, but since Mum passed away he struggles to find holidays without ridiculous single suppliments so his retirement funds are depleting quickly.

I used to go on holiday on my own quite a lot..

Dont go with a specialist singles holiday company though as they charge you more ...

Its best if you either book it all yourself or find a company who dont charge too much extra for a single room suppliment

Im just looking at a few of the sites mentioned above and cant find anything for that kind of price.

Is there a knack to searching for holidays within a budget? As i see it, unless you have a specific date and want to fly from a London airport then its like finding a needle in a haystack

You have be a bit flexible in dates and destinations to get the best prices.

I find travel republic and on the beach quite cheap when looking.

Also try figure how much it would cost to travel to Heathrow or Luton and take it away from the price of flying Manchester or eastmids then see what it works out at.

I've never done it though have considered it many times.

On the one hand would be great, have company and add to the safety, a bit of casual sex doesn't hurt either.

But could also get weird if things aren't great in bed or sexual moods don't line up. Now you're in the same room (perhaps even the same bed) with someone who wants (or doesn't want) sex contrary to you.

Dunno. Maybe if you had separate rooms then could work out ?

Book marking

I’m restricted to the school holidays when the little uns holiday with my ex. That alone adds 100s. I looked for Easter but with the single supplement it was only £100 short of two travellers!

Maybe I should advertise for a fellow fabber and pay half of their ticket: it’s still cheaper!!!

Manchester City Centre

I always go on at least one solo city break a year when I’m single...

I even drove across Europe and stayed in Hostels one year, which was actually amazing for meeting new people and making friends...

I was 32... and if I hadn’t have been limited by time, it would’ve easily been the best holiday I’d been on

"Book marking

I’m restricted to the school holidays when the little uns holiday with my ex. That alone adds 100s. I looked for Easter but with the single supplement it was only £100 short of two travellers!

Maybe I should advertise for a fellow fabber and pay half of their ticket: it’s still cheaper!!!"

Good idea. Maybe start a travel buddy thread?

I often go on holiday on my own I love the freedom or just doing what you want and when you want.

I've looked at holiday companies but I find them

Too restrictive and well stupidly over priced!

I find its better to just do it on your own and find a destinations and see what's there that you can enjoy!

I always book for 2 at the hotel naturally haha

It’s on my list to do... I really fancy a chilled week by a gorgeous pool or the sea.. somewhere really warm... reading books and drinking cocktail... but I do wonder if there are a lot of couples if I will feel like a gooseberry???

Stay away from resorts during peak season I hated children running around all the time.

Go for destinations and hotels which are slightly

More business orientated and less children friendly you'll find it's rather rewarding!

I usually go alone, but after a few days I start feeling lonely and by the end of a week I'm ready to come home. The best holiday I've had was went I went to the US, I was staying with friends (and their house full of dogs and cats), and I could have stayed forever.

Leeds

I find cruises great for solo travellers. You can easily start conversation about the excursions or the shows or previous cruises people have been on. I find about a third of the passengers are holidaying alone.

I don't usually stay in one place for more than 3 days unless I have s reason too.

I fortunate to have friends dotted about the globe so it helps

I've never been on a cruise but something I want to do in the not too distant future

Go to a city when some event is on, say like the arts festival or the shopping festival or something big. I went to the Dubai shopping festival and the Dubai gold cup ( horse racing) excellent atmosphere and fun people at the hotel.

I hear hulk is nice too haha

West Yorkshire

Loveholidays is the company I used when I went away alone last year. I like it because you don't have to search by destination. I just put in my requirements like dates and type of break (city/beach) and departure airport, and sorted in order of price! I got an absolute bargain and had a blast.

Melton Mowbray

I travel alone too.

Usually go via Thomas Cook or Tui, but go in May &/or October. Get the sun at early or late season which brings the budget down, avoiding school holidays helps too.

Am off to Lanzarote in a few weeks

Considering I always tailor my holidays to what I like to do, it would be impossible to go with a stranger/fellow fabber so single hols are the only choice
