Maybe brexit could change this.

Yes, you should get to celebrate your country in a bank holiday. In my opinion.....

In the middle ages it was a public holiday, and we believe it should be reinstated.

We always take part in a St Georges day celebration somewhere (Wrest Park this year)

Should St Georges day be a bank holiday ? In my opinion yes but its more likely St Georges Day will soon be outlawed, as the globalists and ther MSN have spent years attempting to make English people feel ashamed of being English, Cant even fly your own bational flag in our own country for fear of being branded either a racist or a bigot.

St. George is also the Patron Saint of Aragon, Catalonia, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, and Russia. The saint day is the same (more or less - late April/early May) in every country.

Leave saints days to be celebrated by the religious in a religious way.

The idea that anybody that's not religious would think it a good idea to celebrate a religious icon by going out and getting bladdered is bonkers to me.

Yeah, let's have a few more bank holidays and a few more party days but, let's have them in honour of people like Churchill or Mary Seacole not, a man that supposedly killed a dragon or, a man that drove all the snakes out of somewhere that didn't have any snakes or a man whose divine intervention at a battle helped save the day and the symbol of his cross stops witches flying down your chimney. Last of all, David, brought the dead back to life! Didn't like alcohol, banned it and, was known as David the water drinker... not sure he'd be going to the pub with you

What a load of bollocks. My work flies the flag outside every day.

If anyone is ruining St George's day and the English national flag its those who use it to thinly veil Their racist and xenophobic agenda. They're taking the British bull dog down with them too!

Hiding in the shadows

Not sure about a bank holiday, especially as we already have one 2wks later at the start of May, and another at the end of the month too.

But it's definitely something we should celebrate more as a nation

I swore an oath once to serve Queen & country, and was a licensee for over a decade, my pub was always decked out in red & white in April - the Queens birthday & our patron Saints month.

I now work part time in a local club & put all the bunting up on Thursday.

I have a flag from my window... My neighbour asked if England were playing, she was quite surprised when I said it was for St George!

Walk upon England's mountains green?

And was the holy Lamb of God

And did the Countenance Divine

Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!

Bring me my arrows of desire!

Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!

Till we have built Jerusalem

In England's green and pleasant land

Happy St George's day to one and all."

Or

"I might go shout LAGER!! Increasingly louder until he understands me at a Spanish barman later

Got to keep up the English traditions "

I think so long as you are paying most Spanish bar staff know all European translations of chevesa

"Should it be a bank holiday, and why don't we celebrate it like St Patrick's Day ?

Discuss

And did those feet in ancient time

Walk upon England's mountains green?

And was the holy Lamb of God

On England's pleasant pastures seen?

And did the Countenance Divine

Shine forth upon our clouded hills?

And was Jerusalem builded here

Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my bow of burning gold!

Bring me my arrows of desire!

Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!

Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,

Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,

Till we have built Jerusalem

In England's green and pleasant land

Happy St George's day to one and all.

Or

Me me mom me dad and me gran were off to Waterloo

Me me mom me dad and me gran with a bucket of vindaloo."

Which one should be the English National Anthem?

Hiding in the shadows

"

Chase the dream,not the money.

I worked the last very last bank holiday, and given a chance to be at home with friends and family who are also off, or be alone in work (I’m self employed) I’d take an unpaid bank holiday every day of the week. ESP if it lands on a Monday "

I did.

I quit a ridiculously well paid job that made me miserable, to run my own business.

I'm my own boss, I can pick my own hours & days, as far as I'm concerned, I'm now living the dream.

You realise "St George" was never English. Never came to England and (surprisingly) never slew a dragon.

He was a persian/sybian Muslim.

Food for thought to all the edl knobheads waving flags.

The Dragon in Christian iconography is said to represent either the Welsh people or the pagans of ancient Britton (evil).

Either way i find it highly offensive and i'm not even Welsh.

It is. We had the asparagus express here today! His the asparagus has officially kicked off asparagus season (yes both he and it are a real thing!)

Will be the asparagus auction soon too, still celebrating the fact that asparagus from the Vale of Evesham has been given protected status!
