Used car suggestions

I know your good at this, after my car was written off at the weekend I'm looking for a new car again.

Any suggestions? Must be able to seat 5 comfortably including a child seat, not French and I think I'd rather shy away from Vauxhall. After seeing my last one destroyed so easily I don't want to spend loads £3k max but would prefer closer to £2k. All the ones I've looked at so far have really high mileage but I guess with my budget it's a given.

I know people will probably laugh but if you want a safe family car and you will get a lot of car for your money then have a look at a Volvo

A 2k budget easily buys you a nice 09/10 plate ford focus.

Volvo v50

Or at around the 2.5k mark a Honda civic or accord

A £1500 Volvo makes good sense as long as it’s got a good service history. You can spend the rest on a tartan travel rug for the back seat but they’re a bargain compared to many other cars

I recently purchased an Audi a4 for less than 2k, 115 thousand on the clock but can honestly say it drives like a new car and is excellent on diesel. Car is immaculate. Built like tanks.

Thanks for the replies, at the risk of never getting laid again I do quite like Volvo's; but not seen any locally, I had been thinking to go Japanese, but as we are limited to only searching on the internet at the moment I don't know what models are big enough.

Again with Skoda's I do quite like these, don't know why I hadn't considered one yet.

Volvos are great but one of the highest insurance brackets so if you are looking for a cheap car, it doesn't work out in the long run. A bit like buying diesel now - taxes will only rise on them making them impracticable to run.

We bought a gorgeous PT Cruiser on a 53 plate. 2.2 CRD turbo chain driven Mercedes engine, full spec with heated leather seats, cruise control, sat nav... Stunningly beautiful to look at and only 57000 on the clock. Paid £700 for it with 10 months MOT. It drives like a dream and has never missed a beat.

You really can't go wrong with a Honda civic I part exchanged my old one for a newer one last year don't worry to much about mileage it had over 100000 on it when I bought it 6 years later still had no problems with it Japanese build quality.

And don't let the diesel scare mongers put you off diesel engines usually last longer than petrol and because of the scare mongers the price has dropped

Hyundai an kia are great value for money, loadsa kit an they are pretty bomb proof, an they arnt too expensive either!
