Of course they'd get paid for their jobs - as most people are. The term 'professional' indicates there are formal qualifications required in order to do the job. I tend to think of professionals to be the likes of solicitors, doctors, teachers, bankers, accountants, IT specialists etc

Other people may have a different view.

I’m not a professional, but I don’t see any issue with people describing themselves as such. It’s just one little piece of the jigsaw that helps you decide if it’s somebody you’d like to meet; for some it’s a positive, for others it’s a negative. But I’d get no more pissy about it than people looking for tall guys or vwe guys or whatever.

It’s used across the whole English-speaking world, and has been for a very, very long time. Announcing, “I’m a professional window cleaner,” on a swinging site forum will not change a thing.

My mate is a professional window cleaner, he's got 'best in the west' on his van. But I've seen at least 8 other vans with that written on, so I think he could be lying.

It could mean the work they do, means they don't chip their nails, got soft hands, finger nails that never get dirty, have cars less than three years old. Got to the gym and have evian on the go. Have a swivel chair and a desk. Use a fountain pen, laminated business cards and wear a t jacket with elbow patches and a flat cap to match. Oh and a personalised silver condom box with tissue dispenser.

The only person who has got irritated so far is you.

It doesn't make me angry if I read a profile and I think it's been written by a knobhead, I just.... roll my eyes and get on with my day.

How you market yourself on fab is entirely up to the members concerned . Generally the term would mean that someone has obtained additional qualifications and will be a member of a governing body.

It is simply a piece of additional information concerning a member . If you have worked hard for qualifications there is no reason why you should not be able to mention it .

I guess that those who have these qualifications have probably guessed that it may put a small number of narrow minded or intolerant people off..

Very well said, I am a professional however, I haven’t put it on my profile. I’m proud of my profession and I worked very hard to do what I do.

I think people mention it, simply to assure you they are of good character perhaps?

I don’t necessarily judge people who state they’re professionals, but I do always wonder if they’re implying that they’re educated and therefore, want similar. For me, that’s something that you can pick up via a couple of messages anyway.
