Paint, usually magnolia. With either a wall of red brick or wallpaper.

Wallpaper, hides a multitude of flaws

Just a shame it takes Fred so long to put it on the walls... When my Mum said I'd marry someone like my Dad she weren't kidding

Both.

Thick lining paper and paint for older walls, just paint on newer plastered walls, and patterned paper on feature wall because I like some colour, just not everywhere.

And I do it all myself. Go me.

We just in process of refurbing our grotty 1950's walls after removing 30 years of woodchip paper. Complete plaster job walls and ceilings (artex):O from loft room down to kitchen. Huge job. So for a while smooth pale washable walls will be fine.

I do like paper though and there are some super choices around.

Try Arthouse - wallpaper. The site is a little tricky to navigate at first but once in, the toggles are hidden on the left and right.
