Anyone had it done in the last couple of years? Recommendations for clinics in or around London?

I want to be able to clearly see a willy coming at me from a distance!

Perfectly normal I’m afraid.

As we age we get presbyopia which means that the eyes ability to focus at near distance is diminished. We all end up with reading glasses eventually. Unfortunately laser eye surgery doesn’t remove this need

Any recommendations on where to go? There are so many options..would be nice to go somewhere someone has had a good experience!

Had mine done by Optical Express eight years ago. It’s great having 20/20 vision again. It took 15 minutes and a day of rest. Only downside is a bit of night-glare when driving.

Not sure if it’ll help with some willies, though

I’ve not had it done, I’m happy with glasses and/or contacts.

I would advise visiting a few places and asking questions. As with any surgery, there are risks but they are small. In my 6 years of working as an optical dispenser I only encountered 1 person who had a bad experience. However, for him, it was very bad and the Nhs were battling to keep his sight. I did meet quite a few people who found that the results did not live upto their expectations, a lot of them still needed glasses after surgery as it didn’t correct their distance vision completely

. Only the male species suffer with this side-effect

Had mine done may years ago at a private clinic in an NHS specialist eye hospital in the North East with excellent results. Certainly wasn't the cheapest, but only have one set of eyes.

Make sure you meet the surgeon in advance of the treatment, not a "sales person". In my case the surgeon was excellent and basically answered all of the questions without me having to as, including a full explanation of risks. Advised on having each eye done separately, this reduces risk and enable fine tweaking based on the results with the first eye. If something does go wrong it is also safer.

The clinic also provided excellent follow up and monitoring by both the surgeon and a specialist optomotrist.

Treatment itself was fascinating and not painful at all.

I hadn’t thought about doing one at a time..this is pretty sensible advise!

Thanks all for the feedback! I shall make sure I’m fully informed and know who I’m talking to!

I’m not sure they like to do them together. One at a time so you can still see.

I had mine done about 5 years ago now. Pretty expensive but with Optical Express. I am up in Scotland though so no good for London recommendations. I do get glare during night driving now and I would say my vision has never felt as 20/20 as they claimed it was post surgery! But I did feel quite panicky during and my eyes kept rolling back in my head so that could be why it’s not as brilliant as I expected. I don’t need glasses again yet but I think it may be coming. Although unless it’s age-related I will go back and have them done again! This time though I’m going to the doctor for a vallium first! Xx
