Silver Highlights.

I've just noticed that my hair is containing an abundance of greys. the way I see it,I now have three choices;

1) Go to a hairdresser to get it dyed. The chemicals irritate my scalp and eyes,I'm new in town and I don't know which is the best salon,it will cost around £60.

2) Do it myself,this costs a lot less but it's awkward and time consuming and it usually results in me turning the entire bathroom, several towels and large parts of my face and ears purple, with less than satisfactory results on my actual hair.

3) Accept the passage of time and learn to love my grey hair.

What would you recommend?

Some might say when a man goes grey,he looks distinguished but when a woman goes grey,she looks haggard and exhausted.

Let it turn grey naturally. My late wife had the most amazing grey hair and looked so good. May I revvomend you use a silver rinse when you shampoo like she did it stops it looking dull. Let me know how you get on Would love a photo.

Go to the hairdressers. Any reputable salon will do a patch test when you go in to discuss what you want done and if you tell them that dye irritates you they'll try to find one that doesn't.

If you want to do it at home get a friend to help.

I wouldn't advise going grey but only because I wouldn't consider it myself.

Helen Mirren.... nuff said...

I think you suit dark hair. I'd go for option 2. I dye my own hair - if I can do it anyone can!

You could get a mousse type dye or non-drip one that makes it easier. Go for a lighter colour than you want as brunettes usually come out darker than the box.

A lot of it is down to style and condition. A good cut, well styled will look better whatever your colour than pulled back in a scrunchie with dry ends.

I’m embracing my grey. I’ve used Henna for a few months but such a faff, i can’t afford hairdresser colouring and as i’m so dark it would be frequent root touch ups so now going au natrel.

There are some gorgeous grey hair inspo pics on Pinterest and i’m determind to have gorgeous long silver flowing locks in a bohemian carefree stylie.

Im embracing them lol mostly because i cant be arsed to spend a fortune on hairdressers or do it myself. But really, i dont mind it. Daughter of a friend called em wisdom-highlights. I'll stick with that

Grey seems fashionable at the moment. There's a hair dye advert that I love that has women with grey hair and brightly coloured or pastel tips.

So,the consensus seems to be that I just allow the greys to take over. I can then look in the mirror and repeat over and over again ''I do look like Helen Mirren,I do look like Helen Mirren'', until I actually start to believe it.

Is your hair dyed already? You can get dye stripper to take it back to your natural colour. You could be grey tomorrow.

Do as I do - Clippers and no guard - when your hair is less than 1mm in length it makes no bloody difference what colour it is - My wife doesn't quite see it the same way mind

do what you want to do. I know I wouldn't be happy with grey hair so I fork out for a six weekly root tint. If you would be happy with it...go for it
