I have just seen a report on channal 5 news that broke my heart, i have tears running down my face.

a 2 year old toddler, in china, was run over by a van, the driver didnt stop,. nothing new there you say.

18 people walked past her bloody body, some carefully oviding the blood pouring out of her , then another van drover over her again, before an old lady dragged her body of the road,

the little girl died today in hospitial.

i dont believe in god but i do belive in karma,, i hope their evil comes back to bite them hard.....

I saw it the other day, absolutly unbelievable. You wouldnt leave an animal let alone a child. Was it 18 people that went by?

It is sad. A bit of history to it though, is that several people in china have had to bear the cost of taking people to hospital (the cost of the treatment) and a couple have been charged for causing the injuries when they were trying to do a good turn. However this case has caused uproar in china and they are looking for laws to be changed.

yes the report said 18 passerby just walked past,, one or two stopped to look but carried on..

ive been known to stop to rescue a rabbit on the road..

I read and saw the video on the BBC web site.. It beggers belief that anyone could leave a child lying in the road because they are scared of costs!

The two vehicle drivers have been held and I hope they throw the very heavy chinese law book at them! If anyone of those who walked by "on the other side" ever need help, I hope people show them more comassion than they showed to this poor little girl.. Rest in peace, Wang Yue..

In a country where the ordinary person doesn't earn even enough to keep his own family clothed and fed it is hardly surprising that when faced with the potential of having to pay for the treatment of someone you don't even know that many chinese simply walk on by and hope someone else helps out. I'd be very surprised if most of those that walked by didn't feel racked with guilt for not helping her but it's the system that's at fault over there that created this situation.

And two shoddy parents who let her wander off in the first place!

I am sorry but I have to blame that 'blame culture' I think we have inherited from the states I think it's obviously spreading worldwide. Many moons ago in a previous job (cruise ship) an older lady fell broke her hip and cut herself quite badly. I watched in disbelief as my colleagues prevented anyone from helping her till the on board medics arrived. It's because of the insurance!! Now as a fully trained first aider at the time I stepped in to help comfort and stop the bleeding untill they arrived only to be faced with a meeting with the ships captain and an explanation that I was going to be thrown off ship in the next port for gross misconduct by breaking company policy and endangering their liability. Fortunately the captain , who was English, and the ships doctor, another englishman and could see my point of view and realised how pathetic it all was !!

I'm not surprised it happened because in china they are only allowed one child I think it is, so if they have a girl 9/10 times they are put into homes and left to die because chinese culture leans towards furthering the family name etc so they want little boys... Watched a panorama (or something like that) about it and they TIED toddlers to little wooden baby chairs so they couldn't go looking for food or water outside... Horrendous but that's their 'culture'

But it isnt which is why the impact of the cultural revolution,and you are correct the one child policy and the way they have distorted the cultural norms need to be considered.

Re the Chinese treatment of girls and the one child policy...it only applies to Han chinese...and whilst it is still a problem the middle classes tend to just pay the fines.

The big problem now is because of the enforced abortions in the 70s and 80s and abandonment of female babies there is a shortage of females,leading to child kidnapping to provide brides.

In fact child abduction is a massive problem in China,and some very brave people are trying to fight it and bring it to the attention of the government.

To say any culture does not love their children is wrong...my chinese friends would find the British attitude to children incomprehensible...their children are the center of family life,everything is sacrificed for the next generation...(these of course are sterotypes too

)But children are deffered to,cherished,the direct translation of the Chinese for child is little friend.

How different from our seen but not heard attitudeZ?

ps based on living,working in Taiwan not China...which is in many ways a more traditional society

I'm reminded of a story about a traveller who was attacked and robbed. A priest and another man of status walked by and ignored him.

Luckily a Samaritan walked by.
