How do you deal with feeling angry? How do you get it out of your system?

Slamming doors or smashing things might feel good but it doesn't seem to help.

Do you have any anger management tips?

If it is someone who has pissed you off, my favoured action is a sweet smile and scheming eyes. It will drive them nuts wondering what you are plotting!

At my work, there's a long corridor leading from the restaurant to the kitchen which is pretty soundproof... therefore I rant quietly in the kitchen (with lots of swears) count to ten then face the guests again.

Emotional reactions are created in our subconscious they are not based on reality or even facts merely our own personal.interpretations of events based on our past experiences and triggered.

Anger and unmet expectations go hand in hand.

There are many 3rd wave therapies to help you understand your triggers and how to combat them..

The brain is an immensely powerful tool / machine it can be re programmed...

I am not asking you to imagine that you can remain calm..Merely to suspend the idea that you can not xx

In the past I've screamed. Used to do this in a previous job. Go to the loos and scream like a banshee. Definitely helped as a release of tension.

Not always possible but I try to deal with situations that are pissing me off before I get to yo angry stage and this is actually more manageable than you may think. I think a lot of day to day anger comes from lack of communication and people feeling taken for granted. If you're not happy with a situation say so, if someone is pissing you off then tell them. If you don't want to do something, then don't. It sounds very simple but as someone who used to (sometimes still does) run around like a blue arsed fly after others, there is an immense feeling of relief and empowerment from simply saying "No". It means I'm less likely to feel resentful and angry towards others and, more importantly, less angry with myself.

Wee mindfulness apps like Headspace are good too. And massage and other relaxation therapies.

Oh,and wine helps too.

Teens hormonal anything.. Exercise and fresh air. competitive anything swim- ice skate- gym- box. Get them into sport young. Never had any of that with my two as they never had time for temper or boredom. In bed by 9 up at 5 am skate at 6am 50 miles down the road 3 times a week.In school by 9am. Gym and skate after school 5 days. We were all too bloody exhausted for hormones lol

When I feel like I’m getting angry I count to ten,

and then ask the question is it really worth being angry over this situation, 9 times out of ten it really isn’t worth the hassle

If the one out of 10 times situation causes anger it’s probably justified go crazy lol

Failing that have a herbal cigarette

Give yourself five minutes to be alone, deep breaths, and most of all, NEVER text anyone when you’re angry. Wait half an hour, the likelihood is that you won’t feel the same 30 minutes later.

I’ve spent a long time dealing with it, when I was a teenager the answer was punching someone, as I got older it moved to working out, now I’ve got to the point where I tell myself it almost certainly doesn’t matter, be it what made you made, the person or situation...

Maybe not the healthiest but it works for me...

Pause

Pause a little more.

Reflect

Why are you angry?

Seek a space where you don't have to speak, or type, or perform

Reflect

Check out whether your anger is valid, or just an emotional reaction

Then get even, with extreme prejudice, if required.

Or apologize.

Both outcomes are equally likely.

but for me my anger builds up without signs inside in the sense I get pissed at something but as soon as I get angry it bottles up before I can react then after a while it snaps and goes either one of 2 ways....

the first way is I lose my temper and start hitting things and normally after 1 or 2 hits I'm all calm and anger reserves are empty haha it's like I channel all the anger into my fists and when it connects with something it feels like the anger gets expelled.

Or the other way is I get really vocally aggressive but the thing is to people who don't really know me it looks really nasty but in reality I would never actually be aggressive to someone it's just everyone gets the brunt of it but I don't actually mean it if that makes sense..

but I do also have a short fuse and get reactive to being snapped at in situations like an argument haha it's a pain in the arse but I can't actually help it lol just part of my nature haha...

sorry if this isn't helpfull o just wanted to throw my 2pence in haha

I think in my adult life I've lost my temper about 5 times. I only lose it when it's been a built up for a long period of time. I think the best thing to do is get it all out and don't hold back so you can draw a line under it and move on. It's weird because I don't raise my voice when I'm angry and have been told it's quite scary to watch as I'm so laid back and easy going. I lost my temper in work and my colleague said she's never in her life saw someone be so angry while still talking in the same tone then so calm so quickly. Being angry and holding back doesn't do you any good in the long run x

To be honest, a long walk does it for me.

If it's something that can be pushed to one side and given time to come back to even better.

Don't act on anger, don't decide anything when your angry.

Have a good friend to talk to

Hope this helps a little x

Lay down, take a deep breath in through your nose. Hold it untill you feel your chest hurting! Then SLOWY breath out through your mouth! Concentrate on the feeling of the relief of the stress leaving your body as you breath out! Then lay still a little longer as you rerun to gentle breathing again.

After trying this a few times you should find that each time you encounter a stressfull situation you will subconsciously hold your breath and breath out taking the stress with it! It does work!

That sounds helpful. Might work for stress too.

If you have access to a computer, and have children, look through your old pictures and videos to where they were really young....should put a smile on your face!

No access to a computer...then fuck it, its going to take at least 4 min to boil the kettle!

Slough Windsor ish

I go for a drive and play loud music but it's very rare for me to get angry.

Anger is a very negative and draining emotion. I try to turn whatever is making me angry into something positive or I breath through it, chanting in my head or out loud if I can.

I do something that requires lots of concentration (to block out whatever made me mad) like playing something loud and complex on the piano.

Or I take it out on the garden. Shrubs have been massacred after a bad day at work.

I hope you're feeling more serene now, OP.

Central

I just take things slowly, as it's too easy to rush and do things that may make stress and anger worse.

I'll leave people for a while, if it's a problem being with them.

Exercise is my favorite way of getting my anger out with a vengeance. Or I relax and meditate. I spend time around nature - it's very calming and grounds me.

I may also shout and scream, if there's something to get out too

You need to find your release.

For me it's a physical activity. Run, punch bag, some dips or something.

I've recently taken up boxing again and I'm a lot more relaxed day to day too.

I used to let myself get so, so wound up but what's the point?

It solves nothing

EFT = Emotional Freedom Technique is great for anger. EFT is very easy to learn and costs nothing to do. You can learn the basics in minutes.

Do Google and YouTube searches for

EFT

What can EFT help with

EFT and anger

OP.

Strange as it sounds, my dentist showed me a way earlier this year of defusing my stress and anger.

She picked up on the fact my jaws don't align properly. When angry, my upper and lower front teeth crash on each other putting me in the possible danger of fracturing my two top front teeth.

The risk of doing that and all the pain and repair costs has worked!
