I see the phase dress to impress banded about a lot.

Does this mean looking nice when you meet, ie. your best skinny jeans, heels and a blouse and lovely hair and makeup or does is specifically relate to bedroom attire, lingerie and sexy outfits?

I think it’s intended more for men. Scruffy lazy men more to the point who think scruffy jeans trainers and their best pulling shirt ( badly ironed) will suffice.

For women, I take it as they want a short skirt, stockings and heels, a plunging neckline and a face caked in make up.

No one will ever get that from me.

It's not. You may not read as many male profiles as us women, but it's in them as a requirement for a lady.

Yes because people should dress uncomfortably to make others feel better...

I often get asked are you going to dress to impress and I think yeah of course I’m not going to turn up looking a dog (this is also subjective!)

As a guy i always try and make an effort, nice jeans, shirt and shoes or boots,i think not only does it show you have respect for yourself but i believe it shows respect to the person or persons you are meeting that they have taken there time up to meet me therefore i should also make an effort,... thats me anyway

This is what I’m trying to figure out though, is that your idea of what the phrase means as clearly a woman isn’t going to meet you in a pub dressed like that. Well unless she’s into roller derby or the like

Some men look fine (and sexy) in scruffy jeans and t-shirt; some look unwashed and grim.

Best Greggs in Cheshire East

I like a lady to look good. Obviously. What defines whether a lady looks good to me is a very wide spectrum. If she wants to wear heels and the full lingerie malarky underneath a sexy dress I am not going to complain. If she turns up in a pair of jeans I am still going to grab her bum with permission lol.

So I take it there is no specific meaning for it, obviously I understand everyone’s tastes are different I just wondered if it meant dressing nice for a “date” or the sexy kind you’d only do in private (regardless of what you personally find sexy). Is it just subjective, whatever the person is actual referring to? Next time I’ll ask what is your idea of this?

I always took it to mean for women to wear sussies and heels with sexy lingerie under their short skirt and plunging neckline blouse....

I have only ever met one man who dressed to impress me as I do like to see a man in a suit.... but he looked even better out of it

I’m the same too, really annoys me when they ask especially when I’m in work. I deliberately tell them exactly, like cardigan, trousers and slippers and you always get what’s underneath. All I can say to that is I wish there was a two fingers up emoji

What a point!! Never thought that. I take hours to make sure I’m looking as good as possible and what do men do?! I’ve never had anyone turn up really smart, nobody terrible either but always just jeans and a t-shirt, yet many have requested me to wear certain things ie. skirt. I always wear what I want to if they’re not happy then tough!

Guess it depends on the situation or where your meeting

Social drink smart casual, hint of tart (cleavage or leg, never both) hair done etc

If it's a fuck n go at mine then it's full on lingerie

Fuck n go elsewhere smart casual with the works underneath

Does depend on the meet I guess
