Why do people wink? And how do you respond to a wink?

I have had two people wink at me this week, I then sent them both a friendly message and had no reply? Confused dot com

Some people just wink in order to let you know that they may have appreciated your profile or your pics but didn't really want to engage in a conversation with you so a wink was a better option.

There are as many reasons why people wink, as there are people.

We often look to see who has winked, but assume nothing. Our take on it is that if they are interested then they will soon put a message together, and if they don't, then forget it and move on.

I just see it as a way of them showing interest

Some do look at winks, including us and if we like the look of them we wonk back.

I think if you receive a wink and politely respond then common courtesy should prevail. But maybe I will not respond or just wink back...but no messages

I see it as a gateway for those who don't want to put a message together for whatever reason. Occasionally I wink back
