Maybe it's the documentary people wrongly saying where he was born, but I always understood him to be born and brought up in Dudley.

Think it’s more about his ancestral roots than where he was born.

Imagine moving from sunny, beach Jamaica to Dudley. Poor sods.

The Town by The Cross

The references to the Caribbean are about his parents beginnings which ARE his roots.

He's never said and the documentary won't say that he was born outside of the U.K. It will say that his life has been greatly influenced by his parents roots. Which IS his ancestry after all.

He says pretty much same thing in his stand up. That whole Windrush generation must have stepped off the boat and thought WTF! Fair play to them for taking the risk.

Watched a thing about Floella Benjamin. The family moved from a GORGEOUS plantation-type looking house on the beach in Trinidad to a one bed flat in London... there was 8 of them. Made me cry.
