Fact is we need to be in EU as 40% of exports go to Germany, we let the Common Wealth end and the USA is starting to erect import controls to protect their home markets

Thing is, we are where we are (;-)

Having said that, if Greece defaults then the pressure on the Euro grows and Spain, Italy, Ireland and Portugal won't be far behind.

So the Euro could kill the EU unless countries like Greece allow countries like France and Germany to get more control of their national politics

We are in very tough times

Glad I am on this website as this is much more fun (;-)

true we cant get out of europe completely as we need to export to keep what jobs we have left but the only thing that will tip it is the euro in that case we could have strong argument to go back to common market status and get some of our soveriegnty back as regards to elf and safety which has gone nuts and the biggest issue immigration on the scale as it is the only party i can see who will do this is ukip but they aint proven but could they do anyworse than the rest but we wont vote for them although we moan or at least the majority wont labour and the torys know we will all vote for one or the other so they cant virtually do wat they like when they get in but what if ukip got in ? now that would give the other partys a kick wjhere it hurts even for just one election

It would be good fer debate and an antidote to the current complacency..

I`d like to see the 1 million unemployed youngsters form a common alliance on facebook or something like...

Thats something for polititians to shit themselves over...a vote swinger mayhaps...

P.S ...health and safety is driven in its silliness by insurers not the HSE...or Europe !

Nevertheless...A Bill of Rights seems a good way forward to curb the genuine excesses of Brussel tinkerers..

The problem with the euro is that under there own rules they should never have admitted Greece or Ireland or Portugal or Italy or Spain in the first place, but the political overrode the economic. If those dominoes fell the whole lot would come down....

True enough but what progress are we making on democray. We have such technology available now that citizens could be much more involved in influencing possible life-changing decisions. Not saying that everything should be put to a vote but, if they wanted, mps could be much more in tune with their publics needs and priorities.

You can't always get what you wa ant ..... and if we tried we might not gather so much moss.

Its interesting that all that has to happen is for 0.2 % of the population to sign the petition, and it triggers a supposed debate....propogated by someone akin to Alf Garnett or some fringe group, who finds the normal path of undsclosed favours dished out by lobbyists ain`t working...possibly...

MP`s fearfull of votes on an emotive issue could vote for a Bill...or vote against....is it realy democracy ?

If it was true to its cause...it would be in Parliments hands ...not the goernments..who can impose a three line whip on something it feels is threatening...

I guess its a sop..to those that feel victimised by the tyranny of mob rule %*

I`m being faceatious as always...but did people think it was ever going to work...tho..we had a back bench drive release of Hillsborough papers...!

Or a poitical class that should be invested with powers to serve us, thru due acumen, foresight, national interest and make decisions that we come to believe they will implement, as put forth thru their manifestos...like student fees...

Spain and Portugal were withing the rules, Spain was not running much more of a current account defecit than we were at the time. Greece was deffinately a basket case, but Germany wanted as many weak ecconomies in the club as they kept their currency artificialy weak, making it's ecconomy more efficient and its exports relatively cheaper.

The sad thing is that We (the people) get the politicians we deserve. If we don't like our politico's we can join the local party and change them, stand ourselves. It's a lot of hard work though and I tired of having doors slamed in my face while canvasing for this person or that election.

We have no one else to blame and nowhere else to look for the malaise which effects our democracy at the moment....

i sadly think the answer would be to ditch it and become even more insular and isolated, the right wing rags would go into overdrive and even after the disgusting revelations thus far would still be persuaded...those that would actually bother that is.

Spot on, Germany and France wanted this 'collective' and allowed the joining criteria to be ignored and fiddled to make the club bigger.

if i recall one of the criteria was national debt or something to be no more thgan 3% of gdp!

bet most of them would like to be at that now...

Spain has a ratio of debt 363 % of GDP....amazing...

the germans couldnt take control of europe in ww1 or ww2 so now we get the eurozone with the bank of europe being in germany! get real guys! stay the fook out of europe! oh n cant see the swiss crying about not being in the EU!

You don't hear anything about the swiss, full stop.....

The Swiss, though, are no less affected but EU rules and regs than we are (they have to do the same thing in order to be able to sell in EU. The difference is that they have absolutely no say whatsoever in making the rules.....
