"Inspiral Carpets Icicle Works Echo and the Bunnymen Jesus and Mary Chain In an ideal world Echo and the Bunnymen would be as big a U2 and the Icicle Works as big as R.E.M. " If they're as good as U2 Live then there's no reason why they shouldn't be as big.

" I’ve heard of and listened to most of the bands mentioned here and yes there are a hell of a lot of underrated bands/artists! But I feel for the acts that never really become known! I’ve seen some incredible bands and artists play to just a hand full of people in small venues up and down the country! I’d recommend anyone who likes live music to go see the small gigs, have a drink with them afterwards and buy some merchandise! If they’re lucky they might break even on the petrol money! 3" A very good call - there are some great bands up and down the country playing pubs, clubs and small venues that unless they catch a break will not likely be heard of. I have a fair knowledge of the ska scene and there are some incredibly talented bands of that genre alone that are as good as if not better than some of their more famous counterparts.

" The Housemartins " Never understood why they are pretty much ignored from both a nostalgic and influential point of view. They were a brilliant band

I second that. There must be a terrific music scene in Cambridge. However, other than the odd trip to the Corn Exchange I’ve never gone to find.

" The Housemartins Never understood why they are pretty much ignored from both a nostalgic and influential point of view. They were a brilliant band" They were, and in fact you could extend the underrated tag to anything else Paul Heaton has been involved in as well - a criminally underrated song writer. Which has actually reminded me of another band/songwriter of that era who are/is far too often overlooked: Prefab Sprout/Paddy McAloon

U2 are just the best big venue rock band I've ever seen & you cannot BS the world, - the recording studio wonders will vouch for that.

The Edge isn't that great a guitarist hence the massive bank of effects and the additional guitarists. U2 got big because they played up their Irish roots in the USA. Let's be honest, they haven't made a halfway decent album since Actung Baby

"Reverend and The Makers. I don't know anyone who's even heard of them. I quite like that tho x" Loved their Kellis cover for Jo Whiley on BBC's live lounge The only way I've heard of most of these bands is through the live lounge, either of them doing covers or other artists doing covers of their songs

"Reverend and The Makers. I don't know anyone who's even heard of them. I quite like that tho x" I’d heard of them before and saw them for the first time last year - brilliant live. But even after that, I haven’t bought, or deliberately listened to, any of their material. It is that sort of “disconnect” that stops great live bands becoming great bands. To me and possibly others, the songs just aren’t quite strong enough on their own.
