Flattery - Does it get you anywhere?

Jump to newest

You know the situation.

In a chat room, first sign of a woman, most of the men start to make flattering statements.

Or in forums for example.

How do you feel about it?

Do you think it would get you anywhere?

What are your thoughts?

...Up on the Downs

It's mostly pretty meaningless sadly, but there is the occasional gem that warms the heart!

False flattery is just cringeworthy. That'll get you nowhere fast with me.

Genuine flattery won't get you far either

I usually compliment what please my eyes without necessarily wanting to go any further.

Nice tits OP and the poster under OP and probably the poster above me

From my experience women take to people that flatter them easier and more often than the ones that don't have more positive views of them.

Me too! I quite happily will take compliments and flattery, didn't get a lot of that in my younger years so making the most of it now! Though my retorts pretty much always descend into sarcy banter

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I have a friend who described me as 'Teflon coated against compliments'. I don't think Brits are naturally receptive to them.

I had a therapist who set my homework as accepting compliments. It was shortly after Lickety was born. I'm better at receiving them now but I don't think it will get you (one) as far as you might hope.

I'm the same. Flattery is just that. Someone telling you what they think you want to hear in order to get what they want.

I've pretty much heard it all before and I'm nobody's fool.

I love getting flattering messages that I can turn round and make it backfire

Sarcasm just takes over.

How would that feel for someone bestowing a genuine, heartfelt compliment?

Some flattery is genuine. I think a genuine compliment should be gracefully accepted.

London

Thing is when men Flatter women because they want sex, often it will be sincere.

They might say "gorgeous breasts" because they really do think you have gorgeous breasts and that's one of the reasons they want to fuck you.

Obviously, they will also think hundreds of other women have gorgeous breasts, so I think what women object to is not that compliments are insincere but that they are not in any way special to them.

Yeah I agree, I think women generally do want thought processes to be focused on them solely and that be specific to them.

Slough Windsor ish

I pay no attention to compliments from people who dont know me, Id love to know quite hour our avatar can make me look gorgeous or delicious (yep its true, I have a delicious back ) so any forum or pms that offer compliments just leave me thinking they dont care what I look like, any holes a goal.

Of course genuine compliments from friends are lovely.
