A few people have commented on my profile that I look 'posh'!

I'm not offended at all but just wondered if there was anything about my profile that gives that impression?

It's probably the shoes, many people on here can only dream of owning such an expensive pair.

Although saying that we could probably fake it with a cheap pair from primark and a bottle of red nail polish. They wouldn't stand up to close scrutiny but would look the part in photos

Refined is my first impression,in depth profile, use of the word 'capricious',tasteful and exquisite photos rather than 'explicit, perhaps that leads people to the 'posh' label.

Seems a level above many profiles in terms of providing interest.

This is not a criticism in any way but as youve asked, your profile does read very matter of fact and succinct and a little distant. This might give the air of aloofness to someone else reading it. It reads well and covers most things though but I'd say it needs loosening up a bit with some humour thrown it.

That's actually true. It is called Primarni, and everyone does shop there.

I got lost in there once looking for pyjamas, nightmare!

There's totally a difference between rich and classy. Harvey Nick's is the perfect example.

Mostly M&S is overpriced and boring, but, they have a few elegant and quality things. There is some great lingerie in there, and some really well cut, classic suits.

Maybe my profile is a bit aloof, its not intentional, but as succinct as a long profile can be.I think anybody who's met me or chatted with me, will know there's a fair bit of humour thrown into the mix x

Leather sofa?

Some say the same about me. Those who have met me tell a very different story. Just goes to show we shouldnt dismiss too quickly as there are some lovely diamonds unwittingly being disgarded. Always worth while getting to know someone. They can confirm our first impressions or throw them out the window for us.

Apparently, according to my colleagues I'm posh. They base this on the fact that I use a linen napkin with my packed lunch and take cutlery.

None of the above IMO it used to be a word that would indicate wealth, but you can be 'posh' and poor. It's more to do with class and background

"A few people have commented on my profile that I look 'posh'!

I'm not offended at all but just wondered if there was anything about my profile that gives that impression?

The court shoes maybe, they look quite an expensive pair?

This I’ll go with the £500 pair of Lou Bous! We share the same taste OP

Gosh...does that make you posh? Must get a couple of pairs

No, it just makes you poor!

Not if you're rich

Aah, but is rich the same as posh? For want of a better example, Liam Gallagher?

No you can be posh and poor or rich and common "

That's usually how it goes....unless your name is Goldsmith!

Posh annoys me a bit as a label in the same way sexuality labels annoy me. But what defines posh in people’s minds interests me.

Traits of posh for me would include being well spoken (unaccented / queen’s English), private or public school educated, often from “old” lines of money but agree with a lot of posts you can be posh and poor!

OP back to your question I’d say your profile gives the impression of sophistication and knowing what you want vs being “posh”

Posh? Hard to say. Selective certainly but that's a good thing so don't worry about it. I would think you will stand out more in the Forest than on here my Babber. Definitely posh for the Forest because you can use punctuation and everything. You do know they are talking about building another bridge across the Severn so you won't have to go and mingle with those Janners in Brizzle. You can socialise in Cheltenham and Gloucester...the Cotswolds, don't you know....

It very much comes down to people's perception of what posh means. I think some people will believe you are posh by what is in your profile and how it is written. The line stating what you don't want IE "builder types" would perhaps be one of the triggers, this would be more pompous than posh though really; excluding this, the fact you have classy looking pictures and a few words in your profile that people don't necessarily use every day, I think that's possibly the reason.

I think you are right, most people will know what you mean by what you have said, there will be some who may see this as posh, maybe for excluding working class type folk in the first place. You don't have to justify it, I personally agree that anyone can be specific in who they would like to meet. I think there will be some that would view this quite differently, hence the posh label!

Your request for meeting a guy who is metrosexual would prompt this too, in those that are less posh of course. Some would see this as you being a footballers wife type who just wants to shop and look the part. Personally, I don't see footballers wives as post, there will be those that will use that label though.

My view is your profile is fine, it's specific. I personally see no issues with it at all; I can see why some may use the word posh though.

Oh I didn’t realise she was simply fishing for compliments in a round about way. Here goes.

There’s nothing wrong with taking care of yourself, dressing well and being able to string a grammatically correct sentence or two together. You look fabulous, your shoe and hosiery choices are first class and you have a healthy scepticism toward builders.

What’s not to like?

Yes, not a great compliment!

She isn't fishing for compliments in any way in my opinion. "

No, I don't think she is either

Not fishing for compliments at all, I was just intrigued by certain comments I was receiving , along the lines of 'posh totty' or 'too posh for fab' and wondered if I'd inadvertently given that impression. I'm sorry if I've come across as an attention seeker, wasn't my intention at all x

That's another can of worms. We're on a site where some of us happily post semi-nude and nude pictures of themselves and advertise for casual sex meets. Then someone posts a topic that requires you to look at their profile and the phrase "attention seeker" is used in a derogatory manner. . It just goes to show that you can't please all the people all of the time.

You come across as authentic - and as you are obviously articulate and educated, and likely middle class, to some people that makes you a bit posh - in comparison to their normal social group, there is a broad demographic on here.

I was nicknamed Posh when I came here - that's fine, as long as it's affectionate and not an insult I would take it as a compliment.

"Upper middle class and certainly the upper class usually know they're posh.

I know many people who consider themselves posh. They are welcome to their illusion. Genuinely posh people usually aren't even aware of it. If you have to affect it, you're not....

Yes this, true posh and or rich, don't normally talk about it "

Thats what I actually meant. They would never talk about it or ask for validation. They just know and it sits comfortably with them. I've been fortunate to be staff in the past to the wealthy and posh. There's just something about true posh (old money) that sets them apart.

No tattoos, tasteful underwear, spellings are correct, you appear to have your own teeth. Posh is a compliment

Although I have heard people called posh if they have wine in the house they are not planning to drink that night! It's a sliding scale

Off topic, and in no way meant as a slight on yourself, but I thought Welwyn Garden City sounded posh until I went there! So first impressions aren't always correct x

Having read the profile and perused the pics, I've not had an inclination to say there's any poshness evident there, OP. But I'm not qualified to make an assemnent of the shoes like Frisky though

Lol, I don't do expensive shows at all - £100 for the retro pink leopard print pony skin ones is the most I have ever spent (apart from riding boots of course lol)!!

The OP's look very elegant though. I had some comfortable and stylish mules with about a 3" heel I used to love wear to commute and work in Mayfair. 'Oh but they're not elegant!!' squeaked Clarissa Fazakerley.......

Surely you can't be posh if you have mules, racehorses perhaps but not mules.

Oh there are some glorious ridden mules, I saw a fabulous highly trained one last time I flew to Texas for the Horse Whisperers weekend
