"Work stress is horrid, especially as we all need our jobs and simply walking away is rarely possible. I have no advice but hope you get it sorted soon x" Thank you! I adore my job, absolutely love it. It’s just this ongoing situation with one member of staff that’s making everything so bad. And I’m determined not to leave - I left my last job because of my manager, I’m not leaving this one for the same reason. Plus, I love the kids too much x | |||

"I don't have any advise except from wine I'm afraid. I've been highly stressed for the last 7 months due to my home literally falling apart! How I have not had a breakdown yet is beyond me, and to top it off, I was flooded during the last cold spell, I had a troop of firemen in my flat at 3.30am, my flooring and carpets were soaked through, they turned the water off at the mains, so I had to arrange for a plumber in the morning to come and switch my water back on. Has my work been supportive? Have they fuck, they have made me take the day as annual leave, but I am fighting it. Sometimes you just have to find the strength from somewhere and hope for the best ![]() Oh fuck - that’s awful! God your problems seem so much worse compared to mine. I hope you get everything sorted soon - and that you succeed in your battle with the annual leave BS! Unfortunately I don’t like wine - might have to move straight on to the gin... | |||

"Hot baths, jacuzzis, floating in a pool if you've got access to one, massage, going for walks in "nature", easy exercise bike work for 20 minutes followed by loads of stretching. They all help to shut down any stress response you're going through. Get your cortisol levels checked too, if you wake up in the middle of the night they may be high. Hope this helps." Thank you! "Stand up if they are talking to you whilst you are sat. If you are working, advise you'll get back in a moment. If they email, don't open it until you have time to respond as it may have a 'time seen' returned to them. If there are any meetings ask if you can have notes, it's a statutory right. If a conversation is getting tricky take stock and realise they probably fucked over 100 others before you. " ![]() | |||

"Meditation....I'm a bit of a fanatical convert, I've had some issues around managing work induced stress and I downloaded the 'head space' app. I'm a month in now, I've bought the companion book and for me personally it's made a real difference. I'm also getting some lovely support from some lovely people on here in relation to a specific issue. So if I can help in any way or you want to chat about my meditation experience feel to say hi ! "Eat healthy. Up the green veg and chicken as they contain a substance that help you deal with stress (tryptophan if I recall). Relaxation. Try those adult colouring in books. It helps take your mind off what is stressing you. Do some deep breathing and relaxing your body. Have a massage or pleasant warm bath with candles and relaxing music. Do some exercise and get rid of the tension. I hope that management sort put the situation. Is there anyone else at work you can talk to about it. If you cannot change the situation, then you need to change how you react to it. I use to teach stress management, so contact me if you want to talk privately x" I speak with another member of staff about the situation - well, we moan. She’s going through it too - but she only does the morning shift, so doesn’t put up with it as much as I do. And thank you for the advice! Think I’ll hunt out my Harry Potter colouring book and run myself a bath, see if I can chill for the night xx | |||

"I try my absolute best to let things wash straight over me. Stress is the biggest trigger for me in flaring my Crohn’s disease back up, I taught myself to completely zone out and go into auto pilot when things get stressful. I go for regular massage and walks with the dog if I want to clear my head and just chill out. And never underestimate the helpfulness of doing nothing. Just chill out on the sofa at home with some music or a book. " I’ve got four wee dogs so I take them out during the day in between my shifts at work, and then in the evening with my hubby ![]() | |||

Best advice I can give you is taljk to someone, a friend, anyone that'll listen. It doesnt matter if you "just seem to be moaning" all the time. Its best (for me at least) to get it out. For me, just talking to someone who would simply listen was a huge help. My GP was awesome, my counsellor was OK, my employer was a cnut. Good luck with it, the good thing is, you'll come out of it stronger. | |||

" Ditto. My life has changed so much since starting to meditate. There are a million and one resources, but UCLA MARC have some free guided meditations which are good. Jon Kabat Zinn's stuff is supposed to be really good too. You still have to deal with the stuff, but being with your body in the present moment means you can train yourself to let it go sometimes. It can also heighten physical sensations. I keep meaning to try it during sex ![]() | |||

" I used to work 50 hours and eventually got signed off due to stress and depression (amongst a whole lot of other things) which is why I currently only work 22.5 hours a week - I don’t think I could mentally handle anything more than that. I do a boxing class and do excercise at home, I go for walks and jogs which does work, to a degree | |||

Stress, anger and frustration can make you work harder in the gym and can work as a stress reliever. Thats what it did for me. | |||

Stress, anger and frustration can make you work harder in the gym and can work as a stress reliever. Thats what it did for me. " These kinds of things are sometimes a double edged sword. Before I injured myself I'd started getting into quite hard workouts and was pushing myself with weight lifting. And yes, absolutely it works. But if you're already exhausted and overwhelmed, even thinking about doing it is too much, and you don't see the results straight away (so it might get worse before it gets better). I'm very much a convert to the gym (and am looking forward to returning when my injury allows), but it won't work for everyone and it's an investment in energy not everyone can make. | |||

Grounding. 5 things you can see. 4 things you can feel. 3 things you can hear. 2 things you can smell. 1 thing you can taste. Say them out loud. Think about your stress on the way home. Thinking that the closer you get to home the further away you are, imagine the stress getting smaller. " Oh I do the grounding thing already! Was told to do that last year by my therapist. The physical sensations of your breath going in and out of your nose or mouth. When you get distracted, which you will, bring yourself back to the breathing without judgement. It's a practice. It can be used to separate yourself from your feelings so you can realise that they're temporary and part of your experience, to allow you to, as they say, live in the present moment. | |||

"Hi folks. I just seen this topic. I’m Reallly stressed In work. I simply cannot break It. I’m not sleeping. My sex drive is gone. Its down to one person. He’s been in the company near 20 years. He’s very career driven and excellent at his job. He checks everything I do. I do it not bad but I need help and guidance from him and when I approach him for help he just says “ have you read all the back up documents”. If I answer yes and he finds something I’ve missed he belittlles me. If I say no I’ve not read them he says “ go read the documents”.. I’ve spoke to boss/owner of company and I’ve got a few replies. One being “ oh he’s rubbed a lot of ppl up the wrong way over the years” or “ that’s him don’t take it personal”.. I’m completely lost. "Try breathing exercises, a good one is to take a really deep breath through your nose and hold it, count slowly to ten and then blow out through your mouth with some force. Repeat a few times and you'll feel yourself relaxing ![]() Thanks | |||
