Or rather what’s the difference between having sex (and I mean long sessions of sex that involve chat, food, coffee and disco naps with regular playmates) and dating said playmates?

I’ve never been on a date as far as I know, I’ve been single for 30 years.

Is there a difference?

Dating - might involve the above, might involve theatre, films, long walks, just cooking and spending time together. Conversation would be broader and deport and I'd be open to them eventually meeting my family.

FWB relationship- not so much, lovely as they might be.

If I go out for drinks or a bite to eat with a man in view of there being something more, I regard that as a date. Therefore in my mind, some of my Fab meets have been dates. After all those meets are no different than if we had met on a dating site. But I’m well aware that the word ‘date’ is frowned upon on a Fab.

A date is something that you hope more will come from. Having sex and food is just that, sex and food.

I agree, dating to me is an intention to form a long term relationship. Possibly house buying, children etc.

Yup, a date to me means meeting with the stated potential for a proper relationship of some kind. You could have a night out with someone who was not free and I would not call that a date, and nor would I call going out with a fab meet dating if they were not looking for a relationship.

If I were to date someone I would call him my boyfriend. We would hang out together even when we aren't having sex. He would meet my family and come with us on days out/bowling/cinema Tec, as part of the family.

I think dating is when you see someone at the start before it's a relationship. You go out and do things. When I started dating Mr we would go out to the pub usually. Went to cooking classes and things like that. Oddly enough we never really went out to eat or the pictures. We were seeing each other for 2 years before we had watched a tv programme together lol x

I guess the reason I have a more relaxed view of the word ‘date’, is because when I were single and using dating sites for sort of fun and friendship, the word ‘date’ was the word that was used for a social meet. I don’t know what word is used nowadays on dating sites where people are looking for a more casual arrangement.

Dating generally means more of the talking and socialising less of the sex initially and probably would get to meet the nearest and dearest eventually, sleepovers somewhere down the line, invites to parties with friends and family etc a friend with benefits for me is similar however would never have access to nearest and dearest there’s a firm line between the two for me no emotional investment with a fwb and in past if it’s alpeared to be heading in a direction my feelings are starting to get stronger for a person it’s a case of sorry time to go out separate ways
