Who would of thought that these 2 super giants might go into administration?Shares in carpetright and mothercare have plunged amid fears about the retailers futures.

Carpetright slumped 14% after a report suggested it would cut jobs and close stores as part of a rescue plan to stop it going into administration.

Mothercare, which is in the midst of a store closure programme, fell almost 12%.

Is it down to brexit, whats your view?

Mothercare has been in trouble for a good few years, well before Brexit.

Mothercare nearly disappeared several years back so no huge surprise there.

I see signs of retailer stress everywhere on the high street. We’re all mostly shopping online these days.

Mothercare has been expensive and out of date for years, and carpet right made a right mess of my hall carpet so from my own experience I'm not surprised.

Carpetwright is a pretty crap company to deal with (in my experience anyway).

Would never deal with them ever again after a couple of terrrible experiences 5 years ago!

Retail is generally in a bad place.

Mothercare's issue is it sells stuff which you can easily drop into your trolley at Tesco, and the other higher value itemd can be bought online for cheaper.

Not really much these chains can do unfortunately. The retail landscape is changing.

Sadly the fortunes of Mothercare and Carpetright are intertwined.

It's the wrong time of year for shag.

Retail's problem are nothing to do with Brexit and have been coming for a LONG time.

Mary Portas was tasked with looking at the High Street's problems long before Brexit.

She failed by the way.
