Hello lovely fabbers. Hi to all of you on this very cold Sunday.

My name is Steve. I am a fabcraprunner (and crappier than you can imagine). It was suggested to me by Mrs Fence that we could have a thread to discuss movies.

So let's try it. Simple rules:

1 NO SPOILERS UNTIL WEEK 2 SO INTERESTED PEOPLE GET THE CHANCE TO WATCH IT.

2 All comments about the film only.

3 Please give a score out of 10 and your reasons, plus anything you want to debate or ask other fabbers about the film

4 At the end of your comment please suggest the film to be discussed in two weeks time. I will tot up the totals and select the film on that basis.

........................................

........................................

Ok so first film, my choice:

........................................

Annihilation

........................................

2018, available on Netflix and not given cinema release. Starring Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson and Sonoya Mizuno. Directed by Alex Garland and based on the book by Jeff VanderMeer

........................................

10/10

........................................

The ending is changed from the book for those of you that have read it.

for me it is absolutely outstanding. This film manages to combine action, horror, sci-fi and fantasy all into one.

A shimmer has appeared around a lighthouse and is progressively growing. Anything that enters never returns......except 1 person who has no memory about what has happened.

Scientists decide to enter the shimmer and nature as we know it does not apply once they go in.

Excellent acting, scary as shit in places and then a conclusion which does not become apparent until the very end and, in my view, surpasses 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Please share your views and watch and comment if you have not already done so.

Happy fabbing!

I stopped watching after about 20 minutes. All that overacting and moody atmosphere and that weird growly whispering actors do these days really puts me off.

I can’t remember but I bet there was constant music playing too but you can tell me I’m wrong.

where the wild roses grow

Very disappointed with this!

Started okay but fizzled out by half way.

Half the flic is in the trailers and the angry Puerto Rican cliche is getting all to predictable.

6/10

Yes, it has polarised opinion on IMDB as well. It might be a bit like Marmite, this film.

Yes the trailer does give a lot away. I see what you mean about that stereotype.

What did you think of the ending?

I thought they stole from stranger things re the setting, the recording of him was a nice twist...
