"I think its the sorbitol" Also, Lycasin (Maltitol) which is a sugar derived from plants and chemically altered during production. Like sorbitol, it's difficult to digest so you don't really derive any calories from it. The side effect is that sorbitol and maltitol sit in the gut and the resultant osmotic effect pulls/holds fluid in with them. Maltitol can be used as a laxative (25g for children / 40g for adults); that's around 15 gummy bears. Think a massive wet slug of goo careering downwards through your bowels that you can't do anything about. It pushes everything ahead of it, including air/gas in the bowel, hence the flatulence. | |||
