West Midlans

Am looking to treat my wife to a few days away in the summer and am trying to find a “nice” hotel in a “nice” city whilst the kids are away with their grandparents.

Ideally less than 2 hours flight and a direct flight from Birmingham, looking for a posh hotel near the sea with sea views from the rooms and a balcony would be nice, ideally quite modern (not really into oldie style hotels etc) and would also be good to be near the city centre so we can also do some shopping and sight seeing. If hotel had a roof terrace then I think I would be in good books for a long time!

So far looking mainly at Barcelona and Marseille but are there any others cities I should look at? Hotel recommendations welcome too of course!

For a city and a beach, take a look at Valencia, typically Spanish without the crowds of Barcelona, great food and bars!!

Barcelona is such a great city. Lots to see and do. You can stay just outside the city too as there are great train connections X

We stay at the Madarin in Barcelona, doesn’t have sea views but definitely ticks the rest of your boxes, really cool rooftop bar and pool with a great location in the city. If you’ve never been to Barcelona you should definitely go.

Ticking all your boxes for sure would be the Fairmont in Monte Carlo, rooms with sea views, cool terrace bar with a view of the med and cabana style beds around the pool (unfortunately not for playing!)

Nobu restaurant is always a win if you like sea food as well!

Were there during the F1 so can’t say a huge amount about what it’s like normally as it was ridiculously busy everywhere, but can imagine it’s even more beautiful when it’s quiet.

Have a great time wherever you go!
