The end of an era

With the passing of Ken Dodd its made me think who is left of that golden era of entertainment.

Surely knighthood are due for Bernard Cribbins (the voice of childhood) & Roy Hudd.

For me, the likes of Dodd remind me of watching my parents cry with laughter.

Why should people get knighthoods just for doing something they enjoy?

"Why should people get knighthoods just for doing something they enjoy?"

I don't think the knighthood is necessarily for doing something they enjoy, more so for bringing fun and laughter into the lives of others.

"Why should people get knighthoods just for doing something they enjoy?"

It's a better reason than being part of the elite and putting money in each others pockets.

Some knighthoods are awarded for services to entertainment I think. I could be wrong but I think anyone can suggest people for the honours list. I'm thinking of putting forward a new category "services to swinging"

Knighthoods are given out like candy nowadays, its virtually meaningless. Why so many sportsmen for instance? Why Bradley Wiggins ( even allowing for hindsight) but not David Beckham, who to my mind is far more of a global icon and philanthropist ( even if he probably doesn't know what it means)

Many entertainers get one for not being dead it seems, little else

Policians just award themselves for a lifetime of self service which is in fact a job they get handsomely rewarded for

I'm not saying it should be scrapped but a bit more selective not just populist

Back to the OP.Roy Hudd possibly for his efforts in keeping an historic form of entertainment alive.Bernard Cribbins , no, as much as I love his work , ( the Wombles, Railway Children, etc) he's just an actor doing what he loves.Surely reward enough?

I think people would be amazed with regards to his writing credits.

Agreed, one of the unsung heroes of British comedy, right back to the 50s
