How do you...

Keep yourself going when things are bad?

Before I start, not looking for sympathy, just advice.

As most of you know, I've been battling breast cancer and have been unable to work for a while, financially I am crippled! I can barely afford to pay my bills and for about 3 out of 4 weeks I'm unable to feed myself. I know it won't last forever and I should be able to go back to work soonish but I'm really starting to struggle to stay positive.

So how do you? What do you do to keep yourself going when things seem utterly bleak?

Strumps

I was told I couldn't use food banks as I'm in receipt of benefits that they deem adequate to cover my expenses.

Life is all inclusive...you dont just get the good parts...but for every bad there is usually a good..

So thinking about your current condition..rather than focus on the bad stuff (or life blocks) think of the good it has provided...

For example....has this bought you closer to anyone? Could be family or friends that maybe you feel more connected with....

Perhaps not eating has resulted in some weight loss! I know that is a bit of a bad thing to say but it could be a positive if you look at it as a positive.

Obviously this isnt really going to help you with finances... I'm Pretty sure there is a wealth of info on any google search...this is about making positives out of negatives..

Sounds like you may be on the verge of recovery now... I'm very pleased for you...you got this far...dont give up now....what will you gain from it? Nothing thats what! Just more blocks in the path to happiness.

Good luck

profile says epic weekend and you have a verification

maybe your just having a down day

utility services will always put you on the lowest of low payment plans untill your back at work .or even freeze payments

that will leave more money for food if you shop carefully a healthy meal as little as 3 quid a day

coping wise, do what cheersyou up , listening to music , going for walks , seeing friends and thinking positive , you do at least have a roof over your head , a job in the pipeline so on so forth

I did have an epic weekend. I saw my fella for the first time in 5 months and we had a night out. That was a rare up day rather than this being a downer.

I'm very savvy at shopping on a budget, and can do so...my budget atm is 0 which is difficult to do anything with.

I'm super grateful for what I do have and having been homeless myself don't take any of that stuff for granted. As I said, just struggling to keep positive.

Keep as active as possible, mentally and physically. I'm no gym bunny (quite the opposite) but a nice walk somewhere that has happy memories, a dance round the kitchen with a mop to some tunes, usually brings me round.

I keep my brain active with reading, crosswords, read up about random crap I'll never use or need on the internet, make plans for the future - never anything too fancy!

I guess I distract myself from the problem at hand.

I also cook that keeps me busy, nothing too fancy soups, biscuits, scones anything to stop me dwelling for too long.

You are clearly quite a special lady, thinking of others and raising money whilst battling yourself.

The only other thing I would suggest is to take some time for yourself each day, be it a bubbly bath, a catch up of your favourite tv program snuggled up in a blanket, writing down your feelings for the day and also what you have achieved - your 10,000 steps included - even if you rip it up or burn it sometimes just letting it out can ease the feelings and give you a blank canvas the next morming.

"Keep yourself going when things are bad?

Before I start, not looking for sympathy, just advice.

As most of you know, I've been battling breast cancer and have been unable to work for a while, financially I am crippled! I can barely afford to pay my bills and for about 3 out of 4 weeks I'm unable to feed myself. I know it won't last forever and I should be able to go back to work soonish but I'm really starting to struggle to stay positive.

So how do you? What do you do to keep yourself going when things seem utterly bleak?

I'm all honesty, I feel bad accepting help from charities...I'm just me, no kids, renting a room and I don't need much. I'd not feel right taking from resources that help young families or older people that need it far more than I do.

When you are going through hell keep going.

You are doing awesome. Don’t feel bad about accepting charity.

I can’t offer any practical advice other than perhaps see Macmillan who give excellent advice to cancer sufferers.

Stay strong
