£40k plus for the gtr

50k plus for the nsx

Both Japanese legends.

But with the old jap cars, their hot hatches were ahead of their time.

The Honda Civic EK-9 was getting over 180bhp out of a 1.6 N/A!!

It took a Ferrari to beat the power per litre output for a N/A car....Honda held that record with the S2000

Nissan pulsar, another mental hot hatch

Mazda RX7 or RX8

The older Subaru WRXs are still faster than most cars on the road today.

Or if you want to go Godzilla mode, a R33 gtst which can be picked up for a reasonable price

You could even import a very nice R34 skyline for less than £15,000

Fuck, I love Japanese cars

Wow great choice! Love the RX8 and within my budget.. Don't like the rotary engine.. do you know if engine can be swapped for a V8? If so which V8?

Please do not consider LS swapping a rotary that’s taking the soul out of what an RX8 is

The old unfortunately named rankle engine. You’d have to look for one that’s had the engine rebuild tho, it it hasn’t it’s basically scrap waiting to happen.

I’ve owned an old Impreza gc8 which was completely awesome and usable every day, lots of low down torque for bumbling around town and then all that power when the road allows, also owned 2 gen 5 celicas, pop up headlights version, if you can find a jap import of one of those it will last forever and they did a turbo 4 wheel drive version (gt-four) and a front wheel drive non turbo which for real world is plenty quick enough (look for a gtr manual import) as it comes with all the kit

Never in my years as a car enthusiast have I ever read such a thing.

Change a rotary for a v8 . How can you love something that is known for the engine bit not like the engine ?

Guess the budget is a couple of grand then as the rx8 is about the cheapest of the jap cars. Even a classic uk2000 Subaru will be out of your budget then

Should be putting in a triple rotary not a v

All depends on budget really and what sort of era do you prefer? I've got a 1986 Nissan Leopard, believed to be the only Zenki (pre face-lift) example in the UK lol. I'm very much a Japanese classic enthusiast if money was no issue for me I think I'd be looking at an R31 Skyline RS2000

But rotary are cult engines. There is nothing else like them.nothing sounds like them

I wouldn't have a rx8 with a v8 given to me. Rotary needs to be rotary

If the budget is tight look else where. No point buying something cheap .

Buy them for the classic not the speed. I had a impreza once, now got a diesel and the Subaru would not stand a chance against it.

You can’t decimate the value of an RX8 much more, even a stupidly low mileage one is not going to cost much more than £6k

Most are under £2000

The LS swap is actually a pretty popular thing to do

I think the LS swap is quite popular in Lexus’s too

Completely agree with this! Thing is the Rotaries are only really unreliable because people don't maintain them how they're spose to! I'd absolutely love a 20B Eunos Cosmos but with a manual conversion

The Lexus's have their own bombproof 1UZ V8 no need for an LS swap in those. You have to prey the starter motor never needs replacing though haha!
