Gall bladder surgery

Hi guys and gals

Anyone has gall bladder surgery what's it like recovery wise I'm due in on Thursday this week

Yes I’ve had mine out. But I had 3 ops at the same time all keyhole. I was out the same day and coped well with the pain relief. Was a bit uncomfortable for a few days but followed what the doctor told me and was over it in a couple of weeks. X

I was so sick previous to my surgery that the small amount of pain and discomfort afterwards was no big deal. You should be fine but might need a bit of assistance if your little one still needs to be picked up and carried. You shouldn't be lifting. Other than that you'll be grand. Feel better soon xx

My friend has been off work 8 weeks after the surgery. She had a bad infection. Meds have upset her bowels and she cant be far from a loo. A very distressing time all round.Good luck and dont go back too soon.

Recovery differs from person to person. Also upon if it is laparoscopic or open surgery. My ex was home after 3 day was mobile able to do a few bits but it was over a month before she was fully back to normal.

I hope it goes well and wish you a quick recovery.

If memory serves me right recovery was easier than living with the gall bladder pain. I was home same day and back at work within the fortnight.

If it’s keyhole beware the pain a few hours after you come to. The gas they leave inside hurts. I begged for morphine to knock me out and slept whilst the worse happened. Since the op I had no issues at all.

That's what I'm worried about gas and pain but at least no gall bladder pain

I know someone that had it out and was in intensive care for a few days aswell as they as she had a massive bile leak due to them damaging one of her organs etc.if they try and send you home and you don’t feel well I’d advise you to stay there until your upto it as it’s classed as day surgery but I’ve heard of so many people having problems etc but hopefully you will be more lucky and the docs don’t fuck up good luck with it and hope you recover perfectly.

a quandary, could you change my mind?

Remember OP, We are all very different in our recovery / pain thresholds, mine was meant to be day surgery however I ended up overnight, but this was due to hospital timings not for anything else.

It was basically key hole surgery and was back at work a week later, I really should of waited a bit longer.

The pain from the escaping air and the key hole was not close to the six plus years of the pain before.

Happy days and thank you NHS Staff you were great.
