If there is a good deal on the Irix 15mm I might get one of those. Should have last year as they where a really good price. Really don't like the canon 17mm ts-e, the edges are awful. So thinking go wider and crop if need be, on tight spaces. the Irix I tested was really sharp to the edges.

"Anyone recommend a power pack, purely to power the flash unit (Canon 580ex and 580ex mk2). I'm not really looking to go with the canon cp-e4 but that sort of idea. Some seem cheap and flimsy, others silly money. I was looking at the Neewer one, 8 x AA batteries. Also looked at the GoDox Sealed Unit, which is 4500mah, which is effectively 20 x AA batteries but at £120 Inc lead not sure if it's worth the hit she the 8 x AA are like £15, but the the cost of AA batteries to feed the beast needs to factored. " Got to consider the recharge time as well. If the Godox is lithium it will recharge much faster than the AA's

"What bothers me with the GoDox is more that the once the sealed battery dies its toast. I used to have the Metz hammerhead and the battery pack for it was a nightmare, used to die on a heart beat and need sending off every year or so for refurbing." Yeah the Metz used Nicads (or Nimhs later on) and both types of batteries would have terrible memory issues. The 60's used lead acid packs but again you would have some issues after long term use. Lithium packs are pretty hardy as long as you remember to keep them charged so should last much longer than the older lead acid styles ones like Quantum used to make.

"I've got a couple of great lenses for portraits. But I'm missing a really top notch telephoto. I'm on a Canon 7d. Any recommendations? They'll all likely be beyond my budget for now. But it's always good to know. My current choice would be one of those big white Canon ones which cost a grand or two. I must confess it's likely to be my most used lens as I love the telephoto look" I use a 7d Mk1 and have a 70-200 f2.8 that I use for shooting sports. its a beautiful piece of glass, albeit expensive. But you get what you pay for

A 300mm 2.8 Canon will set you back around £5.5k, I borrowed one once but can’t justify the outlay, and to be honest it’s would be quite restrictive in it uses for the sports Photography I do. The biggest zoomthat Canon do is, I think, a 200-400 f4, at about £10k from memory. Why do you need such a big focal length?

"Just bought a new pocket camera a Sony WX350, annoying it was recently on the Amazon Truck for less than I paid with a free gorilla pod type thing. Not sure buying non canon was a good idea as yet, but it was small enough to fit my shirt pocket. And cheap enough that loss/damage wouldnt bother me. What compact camera do you all use ?
