Having dated somebody when I was younger who was full if hang ups and issues around themselves totally lacking in any self confidence it is definitely true. It was very wearing constantly having to reassure her that she was beautiful and that I loved her for herself.

If you are happy and content with yourself there's no reason why others won't love you. This doesn't mean you love yourself.

Yeah I agree with this, having been like that a lot of my life, and still am a bit. Maybe put it this way, if a person doesn't respect themself they're probably not going to respect you.

I totally agree, as someone that suffers from depression it's very hard to love someone else when you're constantly beating yourself up and on a self destruct mode.

She pushed me away in the end saying that I was too good for her. I was both heartbroken and relieved at the same time.

Yes I think so. Because you need to believe you deserve it to really feel it.

I don't think ppl know what true love is these days, as I we live in a society where things come and go so easily we're spoilt.....you have to love yourself not over the top tho and be big headed about it

Yeah you do.

I see so many women in unhappy relationships who are there because their self esteem and confidence are so low they don't feel they can be alone, the same goes for some who just skip from relationship to relationship. I'd rather be single forever rather than be unhappy with the wrong person.

I personally don’t think so. My husband loved me long, long before I learned to love myself.

Well said. This is true for a lot of men I know too.

Loads of people love others but not themselves. So many people have low self esteem it shocks me sometimes. Yet having high self esteem or valuing yourself which is essentially loving yourself in my opinion, seems to be frowned on.

If more people loved themselves and took care of themselves as they would a loved one more relationships would be successful I think.

Many questions like this make just as much sense if they are reversed...

Perhaps if someone loves you then you will love yourself ....just because...

Not necessarily but if you get 2 people who are happy and content and confident it makes a relationship something special x
