I have posted about this before, but said I’d post an update... so here it is

I had been out of shape for a few years, and last year it started to get to me... so instead of moaning about it, I just decided to do something about it

I was 28% bodyfat in July 2017

which is in the Unhealthy/Overweight category

I’d always considered myself as healthy... but secretly knew I needed to do something about it...

Last week I weighted myself again... and my body fat is now down to 16% from 28%

And my muscle mass is up from 34kg to 42kg

My weight is up, but my actual bodyfat is down...

All I have done is weight training, 3 to 4 times a week... cut down massively on sugar, increased me protein intake and switched to quality meals

My goal is to be around 10% bodyfat by May/June

Anyone else doing something similar?

Well done you!

I’m not disclosing ny body fat % but it’s scandalous! I’m currently undergoing a gruelling (for me) fitness regime and the weight is falling off. Shame it’s off my tits though

There’s nothing wrong with getting fit...

But curves are always sexy... so don’t lose it all

Crappy fat fingers. I meant *my

And there’s no hope of me becoming a slim bird. A slimmer bird would be excellent though!

Well that’s if my personal trainer doesn’t kill me first. He’s mean.

I’ve no idea what % of muscle/fat I’ve got etc.

Goal wise, I want to do the three peaks & Yorkshire three peaks this spring/summer

Three peak over a few days

And the Yorkshire three peaks In 12 hours.

Mrsdpt is currently slimming down and has lost 8 & a 1/2 pounds in 3 weeks

I am, I'm going through a whole lifestyle change. More to tone up and lose weight, only thing is I don't know anywhere that properly measures muscle and fat. I've said to several people that weighing yourself on tesco scales and checking your bmi isn't accurate as it isn't measuring fat/muscle.

I've been going to the gym daily with 2 rest days, I do find it boring but have stuck at it. I also ended up with shin splints, rested for a few weeks tried running but the pain still there if anyone has any tips they'll be appreciated.

To be able to deadlift 250kg for 10 reps, squats 240kg for 10 reps and bench press 140kg for 10 reps. Also stay below 90kg. I cycle so anything more it would get in the way.

Also to get back down to 6% bodyfat. At 11% now.

Well done! Would suggest you don't chase a specific body fat percentage though. All that matters is how you feel and how you look to yourself.

Same here, but I’m doing Slimming World wth moderate exercise instead of just training.

* disclaimer - moderate exercise hasn’t actually started yet since last year, but it’s just around the corner ...

If you're looking to loose fat fast, look into hit cardio. Will kill you the first few weeks. But you'll get used to it and see the results fast.

I’m not chasing percentages... I just know that of I hit my goals, my bodyfat will be around the 10% mark or less...

I’m totally clued up on life goals and all that...

A percentage is better than chasing an ideal weight anyway... 10% is just teally healthy... less is debatable... below 6% can be dangerous...

I know I’ll just look really good in my clothes at 10%

Yeah... cardio is definitely on the list of things to start doing... now that my muscle is up

I reckon I’ll start it this week... and maybe do a few jogs in the morining as it gets warmer

You only go for less than 6 if your going to compete in shows.

If you’re going to the gym, make sure you drink your protein shake only when exiting the gym into the carpark.

That way everyone will know you have in fact been to the gym.

Seems to be the done thing.....

Studies show that protein is best taken just before training...

If you don’t have enough protein in your system, your body can go into stress mode and destroy your natural testosterone that you use to build muscle...

Soya protein is know to reduce your testosterone too...

So... one before... one after... in the car park if you must

Most bodybuilders will tell that that at that bodyfat percentage, although you look amazing and ripped, your strength is extremely low and it is difficult to maintain if you want normal levels of concentration... strength... stamina... and just a general good feeling

I have watched dozens of interviews with bodybuilders telling people exactly the same

It may differ person to person... but I have never seen a bodybuilder say that they are at their healthiest when at a show...

Most are dehydrated and are desperate for some real food as soon as it’s over

They're some goals. At under 90kg that would put you in world's strongest man under 90kg level. I know the current world's strongest man under 90kg, train with him occasionally.

To get to that level is almost a full time job and very unlikely you'll achieve it without using drugs.

I can almost guarantee you will not achieve that without drugs. I've been around the sport along time. Also strength gain is not linear with increase in weight. Once you get to that sort of level strength gains are very hard to achieve.

Anyone else doing something similar?"

Yes I've stripped from 113kg to just 100kg in two months..But my aim was to keep my strength which I have..I.e flat bench 160reps or 180kg max.

Deadlift 250kg max

No legs atm as I've done in my acl (knee).

"To be able to deadlift 250kg for 10 reps, squats 240kg for 10 reps and bench press 140kg for 10 reps. Also stay below 90kg. I cycle so anything more it would get in the way.

Also to get back down to 6% bodyfat. At 11% now.

They're some goals. At under 90kg that would put you in world's strongest man under 90kg level. I know the current world's strongest man under 90kg, train with him occasionally.

To get to that level is almost a full time job and very unlikely you'll achieve it without using drugs.

Stay away from drugs. At 68kg I was squatting 150kg for 5.

I can almost guarantee you will not achieve that without drugs. I've been around the sport along time. Also strength gain is not linear with increase in weight. Once you get to that sort of level strength gains are very hard to achieve.

I have never taken any performance drug in my life. And I'm not going to lie about stuff. People that have seen me on here and know me in person know I'm the most blunt and honest person they'll meet. Even if the truth hurts.

I didn't say you had used drugs. I'm just saying getting to the level you want will almost certainly require them at some point.

Not really. How do you think powerlifters get too 500kg natural? "

I've not met a powerlifter yet under 90kg.

I have no idea whether that means anything in particular, just an observation.

Which powerlifters have unequipped 500kg lifts. No one in my knowledge. Ray williams 485kg squat is a world record but he weight 180kg.

Your talking 90kg, nobody has lifts that big at that weight.

Wasn't saying they were 90kg. All I'm saying is that they can. The world record is 571.5 kg actually.

I think you'll find that's an equipped record using a squat suit and wraps.

At under 90kg you will need drugs for 250 x 10 deadlift, 240 x 10 squat, the bench is doable.

And I'd like to get as close as possible. I do have a good 20kg to go.

Yes you've got 20 kg to go but as I said strength gains slow considerably at the top end.

I'm lucky to add 10kg a year to my lifts now.

I would set more sensible goals if I were you.

270kg deadlift, 240kg squat, 170kg bench would put you at European level powerlifting at under 90kg.

You will at lower weights, but it's not sustainable. It will slow down and you'll be down to that progress in a year. Strength gain is not linear.
