Does anybody take sertraline , if so have you had any side effects

I used to take it.

I had nausea and dizzy spells for the first couple of weeks, it calmed down after that.

I had to stop taking it because I was getting muscle spasms in my legs which effected my sleep.

No, i didn't, it did surpress my appetite a bit so I didn't eat much on it.

I liked sertraline after the initial nausea. But then started having really bizarre vivid dreams and waking frequently. Switched to paroxetine which is now my AD of choice if I need them.

Ive been on sertraline, sadly I didnt get on with it, and developed a nasty rash all over my chest and arms which looked like I'd got cigarette burns

It takes two to three weeks to start working properly, you might get a few side effects until then - but nothing too serious, just the odd ‘spaced-out’ moment or two

Metabolic side effects are common, occuring in 1 - 10% of users:

Anorexia

Increased appetite

Decreased appetite

Increased weight

Decreased weight

I have been on them three weeks am eating everything in site and my seizures have got much worse , wondering if it is worth it x

Any SSRI or SNRI is likely to have some side effects for the first month to 6 weeks. Your go should have a follow up appointment scheduled with you, talk to them when you go about the side effects as they will be able to advise best how long it is likely to continue. I felt sick as a dog with nausea switching from citalopram to venlafaxine but looking at sites like Mind helped reassure me this was normal. Miles better a couple of months in x

Convulsions, including myoclonic seizures, are also classified as a common side effect (1 - 10%).

I suggest that you go back to the prescribing doctor to discuss your side effect profile with him/her.

first one i have tried i was on clonazepam for years but they have stopped giveing it to people x

I’ve been taking sertraline for since 2012 side effects were rather horrible at first, nausea, depression, restless arms and legs but these wore off after about three weeks, it’s the best anti-depressant I’ve taken and I’ve taken a few, it doesn’t work for everyone but for me it’s been a god send helping to stabilise my fuddle mucked brain

I couldn't tolerate it, i was as sick as a dog and had dreadful restless legs all the time... stuck it for a month before switching to Venlafaxine. Now on a combination of Venlafaxine , Mirtazipine and Amisulpride and been stable for around 6 months.

Just takes time to establish the right meds for you, go back to your GP if struggling.

Id go back and explain again. It can take a while to settle and i know the only reason my GP changed me was the extreme sickness.

I've been on anti depressants for 24 years. Tried almost everything. Got put on sertraline about 4 years ago. Sadly I did gain weight but they have been the only thing that I can honestly say work. I'm on 150 mg daily. X

I’ve been taking Citalopram for 6 years. I find taking it at bed time stopped all nausea but I’ve really struggled with my weight since being in them & more so the last 16 months with other medication

A lot of these SSRI substances can result in something called "serotonin syndrome whereby the high levels of serotonin can be too much for the human body

Sweating, shaking, pupil dilation and increased heart rate

There are many risks involved

Love the pros and have been on it for nearly 2 years.

The sex drive is still there, check my veris. It's as if my todger has been covered in lidocaine or something similar.

I'm off to the docs this weekend and will discuss my symptoms exchange options. i.e. lose one problem and gain another three...

I've been on sertraline about 20 years and no major side effects.

Obviously I have no emotions on it. The only thing I miss is finding something / anything so funny that you laugh until you can't breath.

The 1 thing I do suffer badly with is jealousy. It can be debilitating at times. For instance today I can't eat or sleep, my head is thumping and I actually feel sick to my stomach and my mind is whirring. So many other things going on and I am just fixated

I was on it for a few months, felt fucking awful for the first few weeks and then totally dulled me. No happy, no sad and made me feel numb. Took myself off it and probably the best thing I could ever do, even the Dr agreed when I told him.

Yes massively BUT they do get better first 3-6 weeks was the worst

Suicidal thoughts

Upset stomach

Nausea

Dizziness etc

Been about 2-3 months now and I feel weird when I DONT take it. So stick with it. They have really helped me. 100 percent.

I've been on it that long I'm used to it now. Some things do effect my as I am naturally very highly strung.

Its just being eaten up with jealousy over the stupidest of things that is really getting to me. I'm pushing people away because of it.

I've been on antidepressants for 20-odd years. I find they clip the highest highs and the lowest lows, but overall give me a more normal range of emotions.

I started on it about eight months after my mother's death and major family fallouts, when i had an "incident" at work forcing me to realise just how much emotional stress i was under. The first few weeks were rather strange (can't really describe it) but now it's been a couple of years and I'm pretty settled with it. I don't feel that it has taken away my emotions, but maybe helps me take a more balanced view of the worse of them. I was thinking of reducing my dose, maybe even stopping it, this last summer. But maybe a pandemic not the most suitable time for coming off anti-deps - possibly next year...

I slept almost solid for 3 weeks with my son having to help me wash, eat etc.

I had a major breakdown tho so no idea if I'd have been the same with other brands.

After 2 months I was swapped to citalopram and they seemed to suit me much better.

I wasn't human again but did begin to function and start the road to recovery.

I think I needed those first few weeks of complete shutdown and sleep in all honesty. I'd never been so tired in my life. When I describe it the closest I can come is this: you know when a toddler is crying and inconsolable, but in reality they just need a nap and they'll be ok? That was me. I wasn't "ok" when I woke after that 3 weeks, but I wasn't an inconsolable tired mess. Just a mess that needed to wake up slowly and remember how to do almost everything again. Everything was exhausting. Finding the energy to brush my own hair for example, felt like running a marathon in my body and mind. Remembering how to wash up even, I never thought that would be something I'd have to really concentrate on, and I REALLY had to concentrate.

I was on it for PTSD as well.

It turned me into a person who just functioned with no real thought. It got me through a part of my life that was particularly terrible and did it’s job I suppose. But it was no picnic and it did not pick me up.

Coming off it was awful. I decided to stop dead and it made me feel horrible. It does funny things to my limbs almost like zaps! Wasn’t a wise move should have tapered but I wanted to draw a line under the shit so I decided to reset.

This, as an add on to my last message, most of my side effects were temporary apart from legs and lack of emotion and sex drive.

It's actually a very old drug now, and as your doctor should say, not all drugs work for all people. And side affects vary from person to person.

It's a crap shoot sometimes. I've been angry and aggressive on one type. Even more suicidal on another. After finally being correctly diagnosed after 20 years my new doctor finally prescribed what I needed amongst other things. Now I like to think I'm the person I shouldve been my whole life.

I'd forgotten about the sleeping. The first couple of months it was as if i was catching up on years of lack of sleep (which i guess i actually was). I still sleep strange hours, often only four hours or less at night but then falling asleep for an hour in the afternoon. On balance though i believe that I am functioning better than i was before i started the meds.

Sleep is a lot better. Digestive system not so, IBS style symptoms are not welcome!

Almost 12 months on, no hangovers YAY! Permanent dull moods and occasional Brewer's Droop.

Docs are not keen on Viagra going on repeat prescription

Been on a relatively low dosage for anxiety. Works well. Only side effect is delayed orgasm, still have same libido, but can can keep going for hours, with last couple of girlfriends its not been a negative issue.

Cant remember what dose I was on but they upped it to two tablets at a time. As the first dose I took did pretty much nothing.

Doubling made me into a zombie for about a week after that was not to bad.

It gave me a pretty bad stomach and some pretty lucid dreams though.

I stopped taking them as I felt they overall where not helping and the withdrawal symptoms were not great tbh x

Right, that assumes I'm still taking the meds...I have been off Sertraline/Citalopram for 11 months now, the beer was last night. The half life of the meds have well and truly expired, so that means there is NO more medication in my sytem.

I've seen enough of House to realise that doctors can and do miss stuff and finish of with a blank. I know when I'm being fobbed off.

This comes from someone who has been diagnosed as exercised induced asthmatic for the last 37 years: only to be told I'm not asthmatic. All this after never responding to the rainbow of multicoloured inhalors.

It took a long chat with a sensible asthma nurse to get me properly machine tested.

My breathing is compounded by, a dust allergy, a deviated septum (which was then operated on, at the price of reduced sense of smell), a collapsing nostril, a post nasal drip and dysfunctional breathing. At rest and at walking pace I'm fine: jogging makes me wheeze like I've been punched in the stomach...

This is enough to make anyone feel depressed, seriously this was one of the major factors in taking happy pills. As I was a runner at school, this was heart breaking to deal with.
