Movies.. what are they missing these days?

I was watching a classic 80's movie this evening.. 'Predator'

So many great scenes in that film, so many catchy dialogues.. I could remember most of the movie lines..

"There's something out there waiting for us and it ain't no man"

"Ey billy ye billy.. the other day I went to my girlfriends..."

Movies these days do not have the dialogue as they did in the 80's and 90's . I find hard to like most characters in movies these days.. can't remember when I last saw a powerful scene.. like in Predator where billy is on the bridge with the big knife.. no words just his eyes and the suspenseful music..

For me movies are missing individual character focus.. dialogue..

What do you think... what's not in the movies these days?

It's a shame not many sequels get made these days. I'd really like to see more of what I like, not original ideas. And if someone could remake films I've already seen, that would be awesome too.

Actors of note, scripts, music scores, big assed props (yes I can still tell the difference between real and fake)

Yes I agree with this too.. nothing is original.. it's either a remake or a really bad copy..

The 80's gave us.. Freddy Kruger.. jason.. michael Myers.. terminator.. predator.. alien (70's) ghostbusters.. I could go on forever..

The big difference is everyone chases a PG or at most a 15 certificate these days to maximise the audience. All the great action movies of the 80s were certificate 18 on release

Quality writing that do original ideas justice.

Then we had to wait for them to be released on video to rent so we could watch them

Horror films have lost the scare factor these days. Recent horror films are very tame but now I find the classics dated

Linwood

Enjoy Hitchcock classics, canny whack the suspense, hitch done it so well, great camera angles etc. Bernard Herrmann’s music helped a LOT.

Like a lot of black and white films, gives off a different feel etc

One example is this...

Any time if the year I could remember the name of all the characters in predator..

Dutch

Dillon

Mac

Blain

Hawkins

Poncho

Billy

Anna

Now going to the most recent predator movie.. which was "Predators" I can't remember any of the characters names..

Same goes for another classic.. alien and aliens.. I can't remember any of the characters in alien covenant...

Big 80’s perms, power ballads and leg warmers! They don’t make ‘em like they used to!
