Just saying. Our news channels are full of it, our weather reports sayings it’s shocking, dramatic, it’s like the world has ended. Honestly we are pathetic in the uk. The new 10ps come into play and we are shown as lovers of a que, the queen, bacon and eggs. So fabbers, what gets you through as a true Brit? I’m intrigued!

Like everything, the media always report on the negative, they don't report on the fact the vast majority just get on with it. A couple of days and it will be old news anyway.

You think the Brits are bad? Here in Ireland I'd say half the country barely seen a snowflake and we've a red weather alert in place from last night until tomorrow morning for the entire country.

The Town by The Cross

You've got it very wrong O.P.

Brits are NOT pathetic.

The News Channels need something to bring in the viewers and so they go for whatever they can. It's THEM talking as if it's never been cold before.

Don't hold everyone else responsible for what the t.v. says.

I think 99% of people are soldiering on.

It's only the media causing a frenzy. Who's whinning for real? I doubt anyone...it's just British to have small talk especially the weather.

Stay positive...you're adding to the whinning

There's a lot more folk cracking on and not letting it stop them than the news let's on.

And far from pathetic.

Yes I've saying that today concerning the weather it's media hysteria and almost brainwashing us into believing the hype . Can you imagine if it was the 1980,s now with today's media ? I have photographs from then when we had a real 2 feet of snow unlike this weeks fiasco ! Get a grip !!!

Well it kinda is big news when local roads are inaccessible and we can't get about. The main A road that we can see from our house has standstill traffic. I've not seen that in the 13 years I've lived here. Yes we get on with it as best we can but I'm not God. I can't make stationary stuck vehicles move so that I can go to work. Sometimes the elements do defeat us.

As sure as the press will go overboard about the weather when an inclement spell comes in, as sure there will be people complaining about the press going overboard about the weather when an inclement spell comes in!

Come back, same time, same place, next year and we’ll all go through the same yet again!

And there are 14 vehicle crashes on motorways.

We aren't equipped for this weather, because it isn't cost effective.

Is that because it isn't normal for this country? We're so used to drab non extreme weather. The only difference between summer and winter for the last few years is that it's been slightly warmer in summer

Yes. It's rare that we get these minus temperatures (Sottish highlands excepted) and snow. We can't cope with any extreme weather. We have flooding in heavy rain, caused by building on drainage land. We have melted tarmac in heatwave, because heat proof road covering would be too expensive. Heavy snow brings the country to a halt because our engineering doesn't cater for it.

The problem round here is the wind causing the snow to drift and is piling up where the wind speed drops. That has blocked a few main roads round here. Otherwise people are doing their best to get on with it.

Public sector dint get paid if they choose not to go in why does everyone rag on the public sector employees.... If you think they've got it so cushy go get a job there!

Only if your workplace shuts and so you cannot choose whether to go in or not do you get paid. If you choose not to go in then you di'nt get paid.

There have been people creating a human chain to pass food, drink and blankets to those on the motorway to distribute.
