Have you checked your neighbours?

North Bucks

Just gave my elderly neighbours a knock to check if they are ok and they had run out of tea bags the elixir of life for them.

A quick box of Tea bags later and they are good for the weekend.

In this weather it’s worth giving a knock.

My neighbour is fit as fuck, I’m hoping she’s run out of clean clothes and answers the door naked.

Good speech tho, we should look after our elders in times like this.

I was just thinking the elderly couple next door haven't checked on me for three days lazy fuckers. I went to put a strongly worded note through their letter box and noticed there was a build up of post. Hmmmm.

Good call though OP!

I was watching them clear their paths and drive this morning, thinking they are more motivated and capable than me.

Must be in their 70s at least, quite an inspiration.

Neighbour has Parkinsons so I often listen out to be sure she is ok. Normally I'd be looking at mowing her lawn this weekend but it's covered in snow.

I've been WhatsApping my mum. Her boiler is broken but there's nothing I can do from here. She's better off waiting for British gas

That’s a little mean!

My street we have a gentle hill that becomes impassable in the snow. All the neighbours pile out and grit it it’s about the only time we ever come together as neighbours sadly.

Nah most of our neighbours are middle aged. We don't really have anything spare to give anyway.

I’m just across the beds border. It’s getting bad here.

Time to go to the pub and ride this one out.

I don’t have neighbours.... but I end up checking on lots of people due to my job.

So please check on the elderly. Look out for curtains that have been drawn for longer than normal and a build up of post at the door.

Make sure their heating is still working.

All really important stuff.

On the other hands, my parents, sisters and brother have no gas, hot water or heating. Boiler is fucked and no one can come out and fix it until next week at the earliest. Woke up yesterday morning freezing cold! Given them our hot water bottles, microwave meals, our slow cooker and our electric blanket. And the offer of a place to stay. (Although we only have a two bed house, and there’s five of them with two dogs - might be over run with us and our four dogs!).

I was part of a group setting up a local check-in scheme with neighbours in our community where those that wanted (not just elderly, it includes the vulnerable or simply lonely) could opt in - we have a wee phone-chain and door-knock-chain for checking up when there are adverse conditions weather wise or we operated the door-knock when we had the powercut the other day, and someone can simply opt in that they’re in need if there’s an emergency and someone will support. It’s not abused and rather reassuring knowing it’s there if needed.

Good call, OP.

You know I don't do tea! I wouldn't say no to a bed bath, though.

I checked on my elderly neighbour yesterday.

Her son has been keeping her stocked up plus in daily contact. But she said I was the only person in the street who'd checked on her to make sure she was ok etc.

I disabled my sexy new neighbor's boiler. Her flat got freezing cold, so I took your sound advice and gave her door a knock. Now we're both keeping warm together under me duvet. You never know, it might help to just knock and check on your neighbors in this weather.
