Oh noooo.... warm the pot, then loose leaf tea, boiling water, stir and leave to brew for 3 minutes then pour, add milk and enjoy!!

When in a rush though.... tea bag, hot water, brew then add milk

Whoever puts milk in first, you need a head wobble

The tea needs to brew in boiling water and milk just reduces that temperature.

Tea bag in cup or pot, pour over boiling water and let it brew.

Then milk. Job done

tis simple one places the loose tea into the mesh tea infuser

then pour the filtered freshly just off boiling water into pre warmed mug , add infuser and leave for 187 seconds

not sure what either milk or sugar have to do with the ritual but hey ho

Boil kettle, scald cup, throw out hot water, put tea bag away, place cup under coffee pod machine and insert pod and press button, enjoy. No milk, sugar or tea

I've mostly been making loose-leaf tea lately. I have a special infuser where I add the tea, fill it up with water. Let it steep for 7 minutes, then pour it into a cup and add sugar or milk, depending on which tea I'm drinking.

Loose leaf (assam or masala chai) in clear glass teapot. Leave to brew. Admire colour. Pour into mug. Add sugar. Add milk. Enjoy aroma. Drink. Pour another one or two mugs.

Tried Heather tea the other day which was also delicious. Normal tea, got to be Yorkshire tea bags obviously

No no no no it don't.

Putting milk in with the bag first coats the leaves with fat and also cools the water you pour in later thus hindring the brewing process

Actually you're wrong, and for a few reasons.

If you pour milk into boiling water, the milk effectively burns instantly. But if you pour boiling water the milk the fat in the milk emulsifies in a different way when the tea is poured, which does change the flavour of the tea, giving it a more even, creamier flavour.

The Fortnum & Masons website has a good section on this.

Of course, if you're a REAL tea drinker you take it without milk.

Putting the milk in first is a nod to the past when they would use the best China. Boiling water would possibly crack the cup so the milk went in first to help prevent this from happening.

ok the reason milk was once added first was to protect porcine cups from cracking from the heat of the tea from the pot

That is no longer required and is now just pretentious nonsense

in your above scenario the water would always be hotter when added to milk than if milk was added to water left 2 mins to brew

as for scorching milk , boiling water would not do that anyway however boiling water DOES affect coffee and will give it a more bitter taste

Always in a pot boiling water if two people one bag each and one for the pot. Pour on water wait 10 mins pour. Always Yorkshire tea bags we have to use hardwater ones.

Pour onto milk sit and enjoy two mugs before you do anything else.

If you are adding hot water and the bag to the milk you indeed need locking up as the milk would cool the water , tea needs very hot water to extract the flavour

hence the saying one cannot make a good cup of tea at Everest base camp as water boils at too low temperature !

however if you make your tea In a pot first with hot water then pour onto the milk then you don't need locking up , just avoiding for being pretentious !

The fatal flaw in this is you haven't mentioned time period between pouring in water and taking out teabag . These are important details that need to be addressed

I don't use milk or sugar anymore.

When I did, I added milk to the cup, then put the tea bag on the spoon and held it over the top of the cup, then poured the hot water over the teabag into the cup.

Logically, if you are adding milk you should do this after you have brewed and filled your mug or cup; you can then add sufficient milk to achieve the desired milkiness / colour.

Adding milk to a mug brewing tea from a tea bag defies tea brewing logic as the milk proteins and fats will obstruct the pores in the tea bag, inhibiting the steeping process.

Firstly... if you need milk in your tea, you have crap quality tea and the water is too hot.

Secondly... hotter things radiate heat at a faster rate. So adding the tea to the milk produces a slightly lower temperature initially but means it looses heat slower than when milk is added to tea after it's brewed.
