I've been painting and decorating my bedroom for the past 3 weeks, and I've painted my walls ( I think quite expensive 2 tins for customised paint, 5 litres per tin £80 quid or so) and for the past week or so I've been putting on masking tape over the walls to make geometric designs etc, I've painted one part black and pulled the tape off, but I have noticed it's started to take off both paints off the walls, so my question is how I stop this from happening?

I'm quite upset about it as I've put quite abit of work into it (3 and a half days for one wall) and I don't want to paint over it all and start again =/ all answers are much appreciated

Buy a painters mask tape or proper masking tape. Many of the cheaper tapes just stick to hard. Also once you’ve painted the wall pull the tape off slowly at an angle pulling it down raTher than straight across. The angle makes it easier to come off in a straight line

I thought there was a difference between masking tape and painter's tape? Masking tape pulls up the paint if you've left it too long. Get painter's tape (although I think it's more expensive).

If it's the proper decorators tape, i noticed the longer its left on, the stronger it sticks.

When pulling the tape off, You can try pulling the tape back on itself, pressing down gently with yr finger on the point where the tape comes away from the paint.

Thanks for the info and I would buy that sort of tape, but it's quite expensive as I'm on a low budget, I spent most of my money on the paint aswell, and il try with the angle thing

I got the masking tape from poundland in the decorating area, and it has the guy from ground force promoting it, so I thought it would be alright

Tommy is a tit am afraid , even if you use Frog tape (tm) it still sticks to hard or can bleed through on the edges

Use masking tape used on cars . Designed to peel off paint without damage.

Run a sharp blade along the edges of the tape (lightly) before you peel.

If you can't afford painters tape then make sure you don't wait too long to take off the masking tape. If you take it off relatively quickly after application there's less of a chance of pulling up the paint. There are tons of tips online if you Google it.

Use a hair dryer to soften the adhesive before you remove the tape

thanks for the tips, and I would of used Google, but I thought it would be nice to have a discussion on it incase anyone else is thinking of designing their place, and it's nice to have a chat to fellow swingers too

When you buy painters tape there are different types, make sure it's label has low tack on it as there are different grades of tack. Remove the tape as soon as the paint is dry enough to let you. If it's a wall you're painting and you are using tape on emulsion it might still pull a little paint of in places, you will have to touch up.

You can buy low tack masking tape, take the tape off the moment you're done or it will stick more and pull the paint off. Just go into any decorators shop and ask for low tack tape. Im a professional decorator btw
