Canterbury....ish

Many times favourite list of's have been posted i.e favourite films, favourite ballads, favourite songs of all times, but have you ever stopped to wonder just how good a song or artiste is?

Have you ever listened to a song thinking what a brilliant singer only to then realise that the singer was not who you thought it was?

Have any cover versions actually been any better than the original? Or are we just too ignorant of the fact that we think that nobody can do a better version?

Here are 10 classic songs, in their own right, to maybe allay that premise.

Bed Of Roses Jon Bon Jovi

Sweet Child Of Mine Guns'n'Roses

Everything I do (I do For You) Bryan Adams.

Summer Of '69 Bryan Adams

Sometimes When We Touch Dan Hill

Ever Since The World Began Survivor

Hotel California The Eagles

The Final Countdown Europe

Making Love Out Of Nothing At All Air Supply

Roxanne The Police / Sting

Now listen to them with Arnel Pineda doing the vocals. On some, if you close your eyes, you would be fooled into believing that the original artist is singing. This man is so versatile it's almost uncanny.

Straight From The Heart (Bonnie Tyler and also covered by Bryan Adams) is another prime example of just how brilliant this man is.

What do you think??

I deem three of those song as as acceptable.

If I was forced to listen to the other 7 in succession I would kill myself.

Please don't. I would miss your unique take on the erotic sock/cock pic and sharper than a paper cut wit.

Although I’m not a fan,,,,,,, I'd just know I’d feel completely robbed if I'd elected to listen to Summer Of '69 sung by anyone else but Bryan Adams…….

It's his voice singing that song which evokes all the emotive energy it releases….!. ...

I'm a big Guns n Roses fan and really dislike anyone covering their songs. But then I do have a crush on Axl Rose.

The only person that I haven't minded singing them is Myles Kennedy who has been touring with Slash.

Well……. Ya can’t accuse me of being closed-minded …….

Coz I’ve just listened to "Arnel Pineda’s" rendition of "Summer of 69",,,,,,,, But I won’t be doing it again……

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

This seems like a very complicated way of recommending a singer.

And some of those songs are a long way from classics.

Since you asked.

You mean there's a difference between mainstream American Radio airtime and, erm, good?

I wonder if Bryan Adams is mightily pissed off to be allowed to "cover" Bonnie Tylers "Straight From The Heart".

Surely there's gotta be more priviledge in writing a great song than being allowed to "cover it"?

Still, i bet he was grateful for the roylaties.

Myles Kennedy is good but doesn't have Axl's edge to pull the GnR songs into life.

Slash's latest album has some really good stuff on it though, I don't like Maroon5 but Adam Lavine singing Gotten is spot on!
