Recently I have been turned off some people after reading their posts on the Forum...

They have a great profile and very sexy photos and we all seem to fancy each other and are happily messaging away...and then I read something they have written in the Forum and it all goes sour!

Anyone else ever experienced this?

I don't take to people on here because of what they look like in their profile pics.

If I'm drawn to someone it's because of what they say. If they suddenly turn on someone, and I don't think it was justified, I can change my mind about them. I do understand that no body is perfect, and we all have our imperfections and bad days, so it can be forgiven.

Viewing forum posts in my opinion is the best insight you have on people. You can’t get that from normal messaging.

I try to give a benefit of the doubt at first or try not to jump to conclusions and see if it’s a regular pattern or mind set off that person where they come out with the same thing repeatedly or even worser things then yes I tend to steer clear.....fair enough we don’t know each other in real life but I guess the forums give a glimpse off some ones personality and people see that as a way to vet people.

This has happened a few times for me. Or if they have a particular opinion that I really disagree with and they are a knob with it then it tends to make close up as well.

I do agree with the latter part of the above - I tend to get a general feel for a poster and it's fairly obvious when external factors are affecting their post.

There and to the left a bit

As most of my contacts are with people from the forums what they have to say here tends to be a key shaper as to whether I decide to interact with them or not.

A person's forum posts can be both an attraction and something that puts me off - there have been one or two that I've been interacting with that have fizzled out mainly due to the way they have acted on forums but conversely there have been some who my initial impression has changed for the better as a result of their posts too

Generally speaking, and as others have said I think the forums are a great way of seeing how someone really is beyond their profile blurb

Forums are rather a double edged sword when it comes to getting attention. They both alert people to our presence and also alert people to our character traits they may not like. Still it helps with the filtering, who'd want to be with someone who didn't like them?

I tend to think of the forum as something separate from the rest of the site. I will have a peruse, read posts that seem of interest and maybe post something of my own,all while waiting for a reply to a message or as a bit of a break while browsing. It's just like having a conversation in a bar while waiting for someone to show up.

If anyone doesn't like what I have to say on the forum, then they probably wouldn't like me in real life either. So it is probably quite a good filter, for me as well as them.

A profile often only gives a small snapshot whereas a persons posts on the forum can give a deeper insight.

Very few, but they aren't the people I'd want to meet anyway.

I do remember someone saying that they thought that I "didn't like" them because of something forum related, which I found odd because a) I'd never met them before and b)I can disagree intellectually with someone without disliking them.

I live in rural England, have worked in Agriculture all my life and am politically left leaning and socially libertarian (which is not the same as "liberal"), if I didn't like people I disagreed with I wouldn't have any friends.

Iceland, but Aldi is closer..

Its very easy to assume a person is as they post but it is so easy to misinterpret what is written and make an incorrect assumption..

If it is persistent then it is probably fair to say that it is a trait, however, human nature being what it is, it seems the one strike rule usually applies and that redemption is never found as future posts will be overlooked..

I don’t know if anyone else feels like this but although I’ve met a few from the forum when I was single and one since for a social, I feel like the people posting on the forum aren’t real, they go back into their little boxes once they have had their say, I view profiles of course I do and think ‘oh they seem nice’ but in terms of using the forum as a place to gauge how they are as a person is a nil point for me (I can’t speak for Ads) as there is a very very slim chance of us ever meeting anyone from the forums as we aren’t everyone’s cup of tea! So when I see someone posting something that I don’t agree with etc it never really registers with me as I know I won’t be meeting them, likewise if it was someone that I did agree with, the likehood of me meeting them is very slim.

Hope that made sense?

You deff start forming opinions of people on forums, rightly or wrongly. For many its the first impression of them and how they go about things. Human nature. G

Hell to the yes. Of all genders.

Folk have blocked me, I've blocked folk. Such is life.

I tend to block people from my inbox that I don't wish to know in real life. Same applies here.

But by replying to me belies that somewhat.

If it is persistent then it is probably fair to say that it is a trait, however, human nature being what it is, it seems the one strike rule usually applies and that redemption is never found as future posts will be overlooked..

Been attracted to someone via the forum (hence my current relationship status) and it's true what most are saying. You can tell so much about a person from what they post, their opinions on certain issues and their general manner.

I guess that's why I've only ever met people I've spoken to on the forums.

I know a few people have blocked me due to my forum posts.

Probably on the topics of hilsbrough, single guy bashing, and childish posts.

Saying that I know that people don’t like me as I wear a collar sometimes and people think I am sub in real life (actually switch but hey ho)

Definitely. I'm sure that I've rubbed people up the wrong way too. Not everyone will get along. I wouldn't block those I don't get along with (though there are some I've broken that rule with ). I just avoid their posts or comments and interact with those I do like. A bit like how I manage my inbox really. Makes for a stress free time. I come on here for escapism and fun, not for drama

I think the forums can easily have have a negative effect on a fab experience. Opinions can be quite unattractive and certainly don't often appeal to the masses. Its too easy to come across the wrong way in type.

I’ve not been put off anyone from the forums by their posts but, as Geeky said, I’m highly unlikely to meet them so it doesn’t bother me - we’re all just chatting and people can hold what views they want without upsetting me in real life.

There was one gentleman however, that used to really annoy me. Every single post. Just so negative and horrible to people. I left the forums for a few months to stop getting wound up in real life about it and when I returned he was gone and all was well with the world! That was a good day
